I guess I figured we were talking about 100% off grid situation... if you have the grid then why bother with a solar situation? A UPS for a couple hours grid down and a generator and some gas cans...

so... run a generator everyday? For how many hours?
I've been pulled over at that exact spot before. The cops tried to give me a ticket for crossing the double yellow line, well they have one lane shut down there permanently and the traffic takes...
It looks like it currently covers all of USA, Canada, Mexico, parts of Chile & Brazil based on this coverage map:

Yes, you can rove within the coverage areas. I'm...
I got an email this morning from Starlink... the "Portability" option is now available for $25/mo to be able to move the dish to different locations.
I made the run through Penas Blancas to Liberia airport yesterday... many people still wearing masks, mostly workers. The border crossing was really fast, hardly any tourists. No one said anything...
Similar thing happened to us. My son was born in the USA and went with his mother to visit grandma in Nicaragua. Migration would not let him leave the country to return to the USA until he obtained...
Additional posts are not bracing. Bracing is adding diagonal supports. If you take a look most steel buildings utilize round bar with threaded rods that form Xs across the walls and roof sections to...
I crossed thru CR yesterday. They didn't ask to see anything except onward travel for the transito visa. A woman was stuck in the NI/CR no man's land trying to enter Nicaragua without a PCR test. ...
Agree. that material is for walls only. It is super noisy when used as roofing material, it moves a ton just from temperature change. The Ferromax 24 gauge aluminizado is the best material available...
Not odd at all. Crypto is very traceable unless you're talking about privacy coins like Monero or Pirate Coin
Same here. Every competent craftsman in my town are long gone... it's soon going to be a country of old women and the dunces of society.
KWP, with all the theft problems you have from your vago neighbors, I wouldn't advise getting cows. It will not be funny finding the carcasses after they walk the cows to the bottom of your place and...
In my area in the Leon department, I'd estimate 90%+ of properties are not registered. Its ridiculously expensive to register an escritura so most people don't. If the owner on the cadastro registry...
Good idea. Or maybe also buy a spare battery to have as a replacement. How long do Prius batteries last? I have a Tesla Model S battery pack from a wrecked car, I disassembled the pack into the...
The Emmedue panels sold by Suminas (half a block down from the Pricesmart in Plaza Espana) are far superior to the Covintec panels. They have a corrugated foam surface and better wire mesh for a...
Weird. The avatar from URL is broken for me now too but now the 'Upload Image from your Computer option' works!?!
Upper Right Hand Corner -> Click Settings -> Edit Avatar - > Custom Avator , Option 2 , Upload Image from your computer
.... Okay that doesn't work. you have to chose option 1 from URL. Open your...
I was checking out this satellite tracking site http://stuffin.space/ and found there are Starlink satellites already passing over Nicaragua, such as this one for example......
Bill you must really miss Nicaragua to be watching videos of people driving around in Managua!!!
It likely won't work in unapproved locations. The dishes are geo-locked to your service address. If you move the dish someplace and don't update the service address, it no longer works.
I signed up for Starlink in Nicaragua two years ago, they say it will be available next year but who knows. I have Starlink service in Montana and it's awesome, 300Mbps down/200 up, very low latency....
it's not stealing, just "a provechar"
chimbo & pachinga (gas can) seem to be uniquely Nicaraguan words... I've never heard it called 'tanque de gas' in Esteli or Leon.
Probably just have to have it sent to Miami and have a freight forwarder send it on to Managua. CargoTrans could probably forward from CR but they're kind of pricey.
