Back in the day,, thieves were more civilized.
They'd take your money and throw the wallet in the nearest mail collection box. PO would deliver it.

It's normal and common to see people walk out of markets with items they didn't pay for.

One of the few redeeming things of living where we do in Texas is that the cops down here will kill your ass in a blink of an eye if you are bad and bow up to them. Members of a certain race are very hesitant to live in this area due to the discrimination from the Hispanic majority, overwhelming majority that is. And the discrimination is real.

What odd, discouraging, and convoluted times we live in. I feel really pissed off at myself for being a part of how the world is right now and not being able to do anything to fix it for my daughter.
