And I believe it is a different type of cement as well - The bags are in two camps - They typical brown craft paper colour and then white bags with a blue and red stripe.

My guessing is the white bagged concrete is what they spray on first and then regular later.

So here it is the next day - More spray, at teh end you see the bedroom window cut - also note the cuts in the cement for the conduits for power. I was going to do Ethernet as well, but i think I will do that with floor drills and flat conduit on the places that need it (Below the TV, my chair, work desk et al) and string all the cat 6 in the 1st floor ceiling.

Here is one with the BIL narrating the conduit - @1:23 it shows where the two pipes come for a hot water shower - The shower head is within the corner.

We are tossing the panels that are less than 2 sq foot, keeping the rest for other projects.

OK - Found out the Red and white bags are Repemax - Which is a variant of plaster.

410 cord per bag - They needed another 10 bags - Going from memory the cement was 340 cord a bag..

Down to the last couple days now.

Kind of like they used to do with Stucco here, a rough scratch coat,, then a finish, generally with the color in the "plaster".

So the 2nd floor was finished yesterday or this morning - Awaiting final pix - Money is waiting to close off that task.

The quote for labour to cement the first floor came in at $600 and About $500 of cement - They did not quote an amount of Rebar or mesh - I want it meshed so I asked BIL to follow up

Also gave locations for sink shower drains (3" pipe) and the S#itters (4" pipe) I want to keep the two paths separate.

So they are down to the last stages - They asked for 7 more bags of cement to do the finishing touches.

    Another of those "shorts"

    https://www.youtube.com/shorts/UyO2_VVFH5U

The first week of Jan is probably the start of cementing the first floor - I should get a quote for this work this week.

So down to the last patches for finish coat - It is a short, so I can not embed..

    https://www.youtube.com/shorts/YyrSWD6sBW0

The finish is remarkably good - Better than I expected - They need another 5 bags of skin coat was the last message

The drawings for the pipe running under the first floor was sent to BIL yesterday and they will probably start early in the new year to cement that in.

That's looking really good! What kind of material are they using for the skim coat, is that something like RepiMax?

The finish bags are white craft paper with red and blue stripes, the base cement is your generic tan craft paper bags - Will drop the BIL a message for a name on the finish coat bags.

But I am really liking it and Chilo is less bothered with the cost now by how it looks.

I can see us being paranoid to put any holes in it for mounting.

Unheardof here but put a cleanout on the back end of your 4 inch pipes so it can be cleaned from both ends. "Plumbers" here to not have rotorooters, at least not in the campo. They use rebar or pvc pipes which are only partially effective.

So the rough work for the 2nd floor is done.

    https://youtube.com/shorts/7bkFw_PXsaY

On the clean outs - Oh yea for sure - Same with the shower - The shower will have a trap - As well we will run a vent pipe up to the attic of the 2nd floor.

They are re-quoting the first floor now with all of the digging for the pipe

    Sink and shower 3"

    Toidies - 4"

Separate paths - Just like that old meme "Water delivered - Septic drained - Different trucks... "

One of the many bad practices here is that water and septic lines are burried in the same trench. Since using primer or at least hot glue (blue stuff) isn't done this is a guarantied to fail situation, luck of the draw whether you will get cross contamination. Another thing, pipes should be bedded in a few inches of sand.

And at least here in the boonies putting a layer of plastic under a slab and metal mesh in the slab are both optional. We did on one house and not on the other but it probably doesn't matter on the plastic because both houses were put 18 inches above grade. the metal mesh is supposedly to keep the tile from cracking.

Today we appear to have been delivered from our slow sink drain--it looks like it fixed itself! A big booger of grease or something must have broken loose.

Another thing-- if you are putting in a storage tank make sure you have an accessible manifold where you can valve it tank only, street flow only, or both. Both is the normal position so that the one that has the most power at the moment flows. There are backflow preventers so the water can't go back to the street, one below the tank and one after the meter. Note than only YOU are capable of understanding the manifold. Galance at it occationally to see nobody has screwed it up.
We know a couple people who have pressure pumps to fill the overhead tank , pump the underground tank or supply the upper floor but I haven't messed with such things myself.

Some good news, the kids got their electric fence installed yesterday--whole yard perimeter, alarm. battery backup. Pretty impresive when you see it from the street--it looks like a parts house in the ghetto. We heard a big thunk and some cat noises, but it looks like fluffy survived.

That is good to know - The Toidies and the water supply are far enough apart that they need their own trenches.

The water supply will end up behind the stairs to the upper floor and there we will put the propane tank, the instant on heater and _possibly_ a pressure pump and tank. Not set on the pressure tank yet. If we do the pump will be well up from the tank such that there are no boomy boomies if the propane tank or plumbing leak. There will be a storage tank, probably 1000L up at the 2nd floor level and we will probably make the platform big enough (and strong enough) for two tanks if we do actually put some rental rooms in back.

Did they need a permit for the electric fence ?
Those are very common around SJdS, high deterrent value.

I got into this a few years back,, I was going to use a higher voltage, maybe 2K DC from a charged capacitor.

So BIL got the total for material for the floor - About $1200 for the cement pipes, aggregate and the like - There were no cleanouts so I asked that cleanouts go just outside the outside wall on its trek to the tank - The dumper is about 10' from the outside wall.

Cement is up to 392 a bag - It was 310 before the pandemic - It is like 875 bucks of the 1200 material total.

They are to start tomorrow morning (wed)

Cleanouts are nice, especially because they just use rebar or 1/2 pvc pipe to do the work. Doesn't really clean the pipes, it just punches a big hole thru the grease balls. Keep thinking to bring down one of those blow up rubber things that goes on the end of a garden hose. They work if you can get them into a smooth straight piece of the pipe where they will not be damaged.

Po' me, back in the construction game after these 2 burgaries that hit too close to home. Surprised mini sinsa and cubas electricas don't have the plain security lights with night sensor and motion sensor in same device. Got a lead on a shop that might. Repaired 2 old ones and installed them, need 2 more for the gran plan. Wife wants the big stadium ones that will light up the whole barrio from our 4 Meter garden. No, he said.

Need 3 more verjas from a remodel that did not include bars, They have to be both burglar resistant and cat proof to save the window screens. I like 1" expanded metal over galvanised square tubing. Ha ha, wifey's new picture window is going to have the jailhouse look.

Good news! We have an old lady who spends much of her time watching the street go by. When she sees strangers (all 3 of our streets are dead end-- nobody has a need to be there at 1 am) see puts a message on the neighborhood Whatsapp line. And she doesn't bark like Roofdog down the street.

They got a police permission. supposedly it is not enough juice to kill you, just enough to knock you off your feet. I guess you die when you hit the sidewalk. All's well that ends well.
