We're entering a new cold war of sorts, similar to Vietnam in some respects, where one country becomes a proxy for an ideological conflict.
But different,, in that there will be no US boots on the ground.

He knew what he was doing in 2008 when he pushed expanding NATO to Ukrain and Georgia. but the "kill the ragheads" passion was so great he got away with it. The Germans and French opposed him because they had a better understanding of Europeon history but they gave in becasue the US had the big bucks for running NATO.
The end game for NATO is not just the wealth of Ukraine but Russia, too.

Yes, true.

From a Western perspective it's a struggle between democracy and autocracy. As far as security goes,, Putin's original argument for invading Ukraine, Russia will wind up less secure now with Finland and Sweden members of Nato, and very possibly Ukraine as well when it's all over.
But true,, he wanted that land bridge through eastern Ukraine to the Crimea.

I had a Sunbeam,, circa 1968 or so,, a V-8 that barely fit into the engine compartment,
To change the two rear most spark plugs,, you had to pull the engine.

I gave it to my younger brother. I don't think that he's ever forgiven me for it.
