Thanks Cookshow. I called and wrote embassy and joined STEP.state.gov - zero. Earliest day Spirit let me book, MGA thru to Philly, was July 30, for a song - I guess it's more like a lottery ticket. We'll see.

Congrats. Feliz viaje. Don't forget to mask up and bring snacks/food & water. Any risk of getting quarantined before arriving at your destination?

All the airlines cancelled july now, been watching, and at this rate I doubt August.

So . . . your Van Halen ticket?

Spirit is still playing me along - I don't mind loaning 'em some - meaning they haven't cancelled my July 30 reservation, but if they can't bring a plane into Managua, it'll be difficult flying out with 'em (except in 'spirit').

Lot of people organizing trips out of Esmarelda airport to SJO, from there can do United, not sure who else. Seats on those flights are 350-400, have not checked SJO to States flights in a bit.

Some travel agency posts updates weekly this week all cancelled until early August, Spirit just said August, no date, others had dates for 1st week in August.

NO one knows, and now States is going crazy again.

Sad thing is some of the repatriation flights to FRance, Germany, and Spain have been cheaper than the short trip to Miami.

    Capitolism..:......

So Cookshow, are you now back in OK land? Or are you finding that where you once lived has now been made part of the Indian Reservation by the Supreme Court?

Yesterday was the 1st Avianca charter from Miami to Managua then back, MGA to MIA, it was cancelled, is rescheduled for Sunday. Leaves many in a lurch, they had already flown to MIA to make the flight and/or get the necessary Covid testiing. Now they will be out 4 nights hotel and another Covid test as their original will be expired, price of flight has just doubled for them.

Lot of folks in Nica were holding out hope for Spirit to resume flights in coming week as their announcement was big news in La Prensa, but they have been dong the same thing every month since flights ceased, announce an unrealistic restart, take reservations (and money), then cancel for another month, just days before the "restart", so for most was no surprise to see them cancel.

I flew out in early July on a charter, the one a week before had been cancelled and lot of rumors were flying that the 1 I was to be on would be the same, everything went smoothly, even an on time departure, not an empty seat on the plane. The travel agencies arranging the charters and the Avianca staff really had things worked out well in the airport, the only hold ups I saw or heard of were with immigration, but even they had more windows open than you usually see in "normal" times.

Is a company in Mexico that has been doing flights on an 8 seat jet, were only flying people into MGA, but now looks like also flying people out, the price I saw was $20,000 so divided by 16 is about $500 more per seat than the Avianca charters.

The chatter on FB Gringo Expat pages has really picked up in last few weeks in regards to travel out of Nica. I would be surprised to see commercial flights to/from MGA before October, The US carriers have enough problems on their hands without Nica, maybe Avianca or COPA will resume flights earlier, who knows.

Here in the Land of the Free, schools are opening, and closing almost as fast, someone tests positive, several in this area have closed this week, less than a week into the school year. Nica was much more vigilant about temp taking and requiring masks to enter businesses than I am seeing here, for most here is biz as usual.

    Lot of floating lead, Worldwide......
