My step-father in law says street dogs in Nicaragua are called perros callejeros. Many have owners, as you'll see they have collars, but the owners don't give a shit about them.

I've noticed that they tend to be rather well adapted to living on the fringe of human society. They know their place. If you want them out of your way, a strong "Shhhhhht!" always seems to do the trick.

On the internet, I've read studies about how important they are to urban ecosystems. Without perros callejeros, the rat population would explode and trash would be unmanageable.

So, support your local perro callejero and toss him some discarded food. Your trash collector will thank you!
