The Alcalde of Managua and the President of the Association of Municipalities of Nicaragua (AMUNICA) are against the proposal to postpone the Municipal elections.

Marenco said that he is all for the elections because if the Mayor left the people with a good term they will vote for them.

The Liberal alcalde of Rivas, René Martínez, said that the postponement is to save resources of the State and to have more time to execute city projects.

Many Sandinistas and a handful of PLC liberals have pushed for a postponement of the Municipal elections.

Currently Presidential Terms are 5 years and Mayors serve a term of 4 years.
