Default Nicaragua getting sued by Serbian Companies

4 Serbian commercial companies and their Attorney from Uganda, demanded last April, that Nicaragua appear before a Federal Court of the United States. For not paying debts that surpass millions of U$ Dollars which does not even include the 20 years of interest, which could add an additional U$30 million to the initial debt.

The payments were signed in the 80's by the "Banco Central de Nicaragua" (BCN). Last year the government demanded their cancelation.

The Companies "Inex-Interexport Belgrado", "14 October Krusevac", "IMT AD Belgrado" and "DP FAP Famos", along with their attorney of the company "MFK Corporation Ltd" of Uganda, they interposed the demand before the Federal Court of the District of Columbia, in Washington, DC. Judge Reggie B. Walton will preside over this matter.

The trial is registered under the number 1:2007 cv00638.

The claim is related to the original debts of BCN's contract with the Bank Udruzena "Beogradska Banka", "Beograd", under the accords of credit, of October of 1983 and July of 1985. Serbia is part of the old Yugoslavia.

BCN is urgently seeking a defense in this case in the United states. The firm "Cleary Gottlieb Steen & Hamilton LLP" is authorized to help with their services in the representation of Nicaragua in the District of Colombia.
