Default Grade Schoool Promotion/Graduation in La Colonia del Guanacaste

Yesterday we attended the graduation/promotion of one of our little nieces, Fabiana. She moved from the kindergarten to the first grade. The invitation was for 1pm sharp and in typical Nica fashion we didn't even leave the house till 1:15. We arrived by motor taxi 5 minutes later to an area of the school that was set up with a stage and speakers and a podium. If front of the stage was another area set up with around 120 white plastic chairs, 6 chairs wide and 20 deep. Also, in typical Nica fashion, when we arrived there were only around 8 other people there! The teachers weren't even there yet!
Around 2 pm more people started to arrive and little by little, by 2:30 all the graduates and their escorts had arrived. The procession then started with music soooooo loud that it hurt my ears. All the little graduates were dressed in their school uniforms and each had on a graduation cap and some had on white gloves. It was precious to see them. The ceremony started with a prayer, religious song and a reading from Psalms of the Christian Bible. I couldn't help but think of the ruckus it would have made in the USA. Afterwards, each student was called up to the stage to receive their diploma with their parent or other escort (an aunt, cousin, sister or brother.... sometimes even a neighbor). The graduates with the highest marks made little speeches and a couple of girls dressed in traditional garb did a Nica folk dance as did one other younger girl in a white dress who was approximately 6 years old. I took videos of each.
The people seemed very curious to see a gringo in their midst but treated me with total respect and I talked to several of them about the day's activities and their children. As it turns out, nearly half the graduates had one of the same last names as my wife. Seems the "Centenos" and the "Moyas" must have occupied that area of Nicaragua since the time of the Spanish Conquistadors!
After the ceremony concluded we returned to the family house for a meal, some cake and ice cream. All in all a very nice day!

( I tried to upload some pics but can't figure it out........Jonh....Help!)

While I was reading this I wondered why there were no pictures...especially from you!

The picture uploading process on this site is abysmal.

It is better to use Picasa..

Load Picasa on your PC.. (picasa.google.com)

"Upload" you pictures (bottom, center button of picasa)

Go to each picture at your picasa "space" and right click the mouse and choose "copy image URL"
..........If you have gmail you already have a picasa space good for about 10,000 medium sized photos.

Start a post here using the little frame with the tree in the center of the top line icons you see when editing a post .

When presented with the "Picture URL box" either use control + "V" or right mouse and "Past" to put the aforementioned "picture URL" into the space..

You now have an uncle named Bob..

Bob's nickname is Tickety Boo.

So you end up with "" typed or pasted into you post's text box. Yeah, it's "abysmal" but it's not much worse than a lot of forurms.

I downloaded "picaso" but still can't do the pic thing! So I cut and pasted from my facebook page and that worked... but.... it gave access to my facebook account to anyone viewing the post...so.... I deleted it! I will post some pics as soon as I figure it all out. I used to post pics easily. Has something changed on the site?

On the bright side... we are in the new house and my wife is happy. And as most men know, when your wife is happy then............................. well, let's just say life is better when the womenfolk are happy!

Actually that will only allow access to that "single picture".. I know I tested it.. You do have to be sure that the photo album itself (in face book) Is "Friends" or "Friend of friends" permission only though.. Actually that should be you default for all of your facebook photos and you make it to "veryone"as the exception.

You need to click on them so they are reasonable size... In Picasa (web) there will be a big page of small thumb nails then as you click each one it will go to a fair size (800 ish by 600 ish single picture... It is the "URL" for that picture you want...

This is a pic of my little niece and her teacher. You can see the line of students and parents (and other escorts) formed behind them for the procession into the school to start the graduation ceremony. My niece does not seem too happy to be with her teacher. Her teacher looks a bit tired. It must have been a tough school year!

I feel like the Texas blonde who was asked; which is farthest, the moon or Florida?

The blonde: "Hello? Florida.................. I can see the moon from here!"

Jack, I know within reason that you tried everything in the book to make them larger and the several blank pages afterwards tell the story vividly.

I can, when I squint just right, see what you are protraying.

Did it get a rise out of ya Irish?

Jack, I have to imagine the snowman.

The three prior to that are blank.

Then I have the thumbnail photos......with two of 'em.

If anyone else can see them, I guess it's my puter?
