Fishing in Granada: Lake Granada

I've just moved to Granada and I'd like to do some freshwater fishing. I've seen a lot of guys around the "tourist entrance" on the Granada end of the lake fishing for Guapote and other fish. Most people use nets but since I brought a reel down here I'd like to give it a cast. Does anyone have any suggestions on good freshwater bate for fishing off the shores in Granada?

My only advice would be... don't eat what you catch! The lake is terribly polluted, especially near the town of Granada and you can get sick just swimming there, let alone, eating the fish. On my morning walks by the lake, I see Nicas on bicycles each day taking their catch to town to sell in the market or to local restaurants. In the restaurants, I always ask where the fish comes from and they always tell me the ocean not the lake but I don't believe them and I never eat fish in Nicaragua.

However, I would eat some if it came from JW!

I think Fisher Cigarman is temporarily disconnected... tried to contact about cigars, no response for a few weeks.

Honestly I don't know if the lake fish are any different than the ocean fish when it comes to pollution. Lots of run off out of the estuaries and the boats do a lot of dumping of their sewage right off the coast, much closer than legally allowed. Just fry the crap out of the fish and you should be fine

All great advice! I guess since this isn't my first rodeo, I'll take my chances with the fish until I get sick. I'd like to do some tuna fishing off the pacific south coast as well. If anyone does any or has any input on what kinda rigs/gear/tackle can accomplish this on a budget I'm all hears.

I agree 3f if it is thoroughly cooked and has not been exposed to heavy doses of chemical or heavy metal runoff from a factory it is no more than eating a local shit eating hog here Just cook it well.

A turd ain't going to do nothing but fatten 'em up....
