Default My favorete pastimes in Nicaragua

One is working with youth at my job as a consultant to a seafood processing plant. Showing them the proper way to make equipment repairs, testing and adjusting, and what not.

It doesn't pay a lot monetarily on a US standard, but the rewards of picking thru the youth that value my time and effort have been very rewarding.

My job is mainly done over the cell phone and the internet and often days or a week or more passes before I have to show up personally at the plant when my mechanics don't understand what I am talking about. Two of the lead men I have had in training for 15 years.

So I work at home a lot and spend a lot of time on the computer doing odd things like finding out about repair parts, packaging materials and things for the plant as the General Manager asks of me.

So I work a lot late at night in the comfort of my home when my children are sleeping and the house is quiet. My ablity to go between English to Spanish on technical subjects has proven invaluable. My social Spanish leaves somewhat to be desired but I get along.

But I have a mean streak in me that is also a pastime. Often I need to take a break from this well padded office chair to collect my thoughts and take a walk around the house.

All the windows in the house are screened with that green plastic stuff that keeps the bugs, well most of them anyway on the outside. and them little alligator looking things about 3 inches long like to travel about them on the outside preying on bugs.
    What are they called Geeko's?

So in my natural born meanness I like to sneak up on them and with my finger in the inside, give 'em a thump and listen as they hit the grass outside. Or the zinc awnings on the first floor windows. When I hear the zinc thump with their bodies hitting it,I laugh. In the day time when a yard chicken grab's 'em and runs from the rest to go eat in peace chased by the rest of them I laugh again.

So don't tell me I've nothing to do...

Another is to all of we, my four children and I in a joint effort cooking in the Galley of our home and cleaning up afterward.

I have been both father and mother to them as the mother had/has other things to do with her life. and we all took a vote, we all want her not back in the house.

Sorry for her, but she chose her direction in life. for a short visit perhaps but not to live here again. they are stronger against this than I because the woman left me not when I took sick.

But I wish her well in the road she has taken.

I would imagine that your writing is one of your favorite pastimes as well, no?

Keep up the good work with your kids my friend! There's nothing more important that you do!

Yes my writing is a past time, but now I have so much stored and need to straighten it up to E-Book it.

I have been studying it for the last month or so to do it, and I got a shot in the arm this morning from a cousin on FB about AMAZON self publishing about a 26 year old that sells books and stories from 3 dollars to 99 cents on Kindle....

In one year (her first year)she sold 900,000 "copies". She keeps 70 % of the sales at $1-$3 each sale.

    She started last April.

    Fantastic story.

Haven't read any but she should write a book about how to become a millionaire at 26 by writing for ebooks.

I'm thinkin soft porn for Kindle is the answer.

In other pictures, she appears a bit, shall we say, sobrepeso. Not that it matters.

I downloaded a free sample of her work. It's not totally amateurish, but could have been better. I see the issue with this system thus: If authors that aren't good enough to be published by professionals flood the market with dirt cheap books, the whole realm of literature risks becoming cheapened. Standards will plummet. People doing this may or may not have professional editors helping them, and if they don't there's an extremely high probability that their work will be crap.

And since readers only risked .99 they will read a page and throw it away, without feeling ripped off. It's the McNovel. It's the same thing with iPhone apps - if you only paid a buck, and it doesn't work or you get bored with it fast, you really don't care. It's when you invest $24 in a book that you choose carefully and expect it to uplift and excite you. With McNovels, you'll never be disappointed because you didn't expect much anyway.

If an author is really good, and can leverage this to his advantage, then it's great; he'll probably make more money this way. But that will be a very rare exception. Something like 95% or more of book submissions are rejected by publishers for a very good reason.

So get your stuff finished, JW, and put it on Amazon next to Ms. Hocking, and make some money, dammit!

I hear you. Between the TV, people shouting on the phone, a squalling infant, etc., I can't focus on squat until at least ten, and by then I'm too tired.

Open your document in Word. Click "save as" and select HTML as the file type. Done.
