Thread: US Boy Scouts in Nicaragua

    Default US Boy Scouts in Nicaragua

    This is from a friend, and I should have posted it before because I know the person who runs this. Really good people.

    [quote]FYI .. if you are interested, or know of any children who may be, please pass along the message about the U.S. Boy Scouts. It is open to foreigners only (dual citizens or non-Nicas) in order NOT TO COMPETE with the Nica Boy Scouts. The meetings and activitites are held in English. It's a great opportunity for children to enforce their English skills, learn outdoors skills, and learn/practice the following mission of the Boy Scouts:
    The mission of the Boy Scouts of America is to prepare young people to make ethical and moral choices over their lifetimes by instilling in them the values of the Scout Oath and Law.

    Scout OathScout LawOn my honor I will do my best
    To do my duty to God and my country
    and to obey the Scout Law;
    To help other people at all times;
    To keep myself physically strong,
    mentally awake, and morally straight.
    A Scout is:
    Trustworthy
    Loyal
    Helpful
    Friendly
    Courteous
    Kind
    Obedient
    Cheerful
    Thrifty
    Brave
    Clean
    Reverent

    I hold the rank of "First Class"

    DDT is an "Eagle"

    You can't get no better than that....

    This will bring back some memories for many of us. Summer camp, merit badges (can't remember mine), lots of good times and fellowship.

    Pic taken yesterday in Danlí, Honduras at the La Colonia. The Scouts, boy and girls, quite a few of them, were getting a bump for every box of that milk they sold.

    Note the Boy Scout Salute from a couple of them.

    Think Bill has some pics on here of the old prison, Boy Scouts are the tour guides I believe.

    Actually first Scouts were formed here in 1917 at Bluefields, just 10 years after Baden Powell first formed them.

    Yes and I did see where Frank Zelidon (sp) was a Scout leader and saw a bunch of the old pictures of them in his office in Bluefields years ago when I did meet him..

    Frank got in a little trouble a couple of years back over money laundring with the Colombians or something to do with that smuggling crap..

    I was saddened to hear that about him. The story about his involvment is on here somewhere...
