Default Neighorhoods You know .... Barrio Santa Anna

I had thought of this some time ago and never got around to typing it up.

Basically is entales typing up a bunch of details of a Neighborhood you have first hand experience of and listing the items of interest there. Who knows with enough entries it could turn into a separate thread.

Things to include would be points of interest, relative safety level, and maybe a story or two

I will start with Barrio Santa Anna

It is where my wife and her family are from. It is close to the lake in the north west quadrant close to Acahualinca and La Chureca ...

General area is here - Google Map

The biggest attraction in the area is the fosilised foot prints in the mud - Google Maps
    Wiki - Here

It is not a safe area. Travel to Acahualinca should only be done by trusted transport. (e.g. the taxi that takes you there waits for you)

There is a "Gringo" price to enter this site.

Of course there is the dump (La Chureca) in the the same general area. Wiki - Here Google map of entrance - Here

You must really see the dump to appreciate the culture. I do not mean that in a tong and cheek way, I mean that in a way of understanding Nicaragua as a package.

I have been there 3 times. twice in an old family '87 chevy Astro van held together with sticky tape and bubble gum and we were left relatively to our selves. The third time was in a newer Mitsubishi and it was uncomfortable as there were 4 or 5 people clinging to the truck trying to pry off parts.

If you do go, go in the oldest vehicular mode of transport you can find and trust and dress _way_down_ for the occasion.

There is one really nice mall in the hood as well. Mall - Google maps

Clean, guarded, parking with a bus station in front and probably as far down this bus rout as you want to go. Chilo says you do not want to go Acahualinca stop(s) after this one.

    It's worth its own sub-forum.

I belong to some vbulletin sites that have some features that are useful.

    1. A like button. If a reader likes something that someone post they can put a like on it. It displays who all liked that post.

    2. A Karma Button. If a reader likes something another post they can give them good points. So when you look at the person's avatar there is a bunch of green squares that makes up a bar and that defines how popular the users statements are.

Both those features help new members or visitors in knowing who is full of it or not.

Chilo was telling me how there was a real big riot in Barrio Santa anna over the recent festivities.. One block of the neighborliness church.. (I was on travel at work and mised the TV reports)

Gun and Machete play.. Woo Hoo

Seems my Niece and my her husband (The romanian fellow I have mentioned previously) from Calgary were held up in another Niece's house on the Santa Anna/Aquahalinca border...

Nothing like a first hand view if mob violence to bring the country into perspective..
