    Default Adios Nicaragua !!

Just wanted to inform all TRN members that myself along with my wife will be traveling out to Southern California this Thursday in search of our new home. We have sold our house in Nicaragua, sold my vehicle and the hotel business is being transfered over to my wife's family. I am doing this not for myself but to provide a future for my wife and our two young boys. So that they can get a good education and to enjoy a new life in the USA. Our two young boys who were both born in Nicaragua have dual U.S. and Nicaraguan citizenship. Our two young boys will temporarily stay behind with their family in Managua while we search for our new home. Once we have our new home ready then we are to return to Nicaragua to bring back our two sons. Our furnishings and belongings are being shipped out by shipping container. I am returning to my old job as a workers compensation specialist at my brother's law office near downtown Los Angeles. Before I came to Nicaragua I was working at the law office for 15 years.

By all means this will not be the end of me here on TRN. I will continue to check on the site to see how my friends here in Nicaragua are doing. May God bless you all !!

    Eddie,

Best of luck with your move.

There is (of course) more to this story and anything more to share would be appreciated.

    How old are your children?

Are you concerned about their Education? Attitude? Culture?

I think that what you are doing is a great thing because you are doing it for the family.

    Please stay with us virtually.

I am faced with that same decision myself because of my children. I got enough since to know the very best education here truly ain't worth a Tinkers Damn to be honest and not biased and one sided.

I really don't want to but I have to think of them and not me in this situation. I have made sure that their Spanish is good and their Miskito. their English needs a bit of polishing but that will happen.

When a potential customer or employer asks them where did you finish school? I want them to have a heavy answer.

My client is a Nica, but US educated and that has carried him far in the business world down here.

Buena suerte y que se vayan con Dios!

Your prelude-to-this-announcement thread a short while ago, of your second honeymoon cruize tour of the Greek islands, Turkey, & parts of Italy (& more than I remember) was more fitting of an L.A. lawyer than a Chinandega hotel manager. The splurge had me wondering, but all is clear now.__

Best of luck to ya. Made the same choice several years ago. Things were great for me and the wife in nic but the children needed to receive a good education and no matter what type of education they could get the first thing an employer in the US will ask for is your high school diploma and if you do not have ya need to get a GED. So went home to work and save while my children complete their education and then back to my hammock between the mango trees. Only wish I could time warp them through school the rat race here sucks. All I can do is grin and bear it and take relief in watching my children grow.

I am currently living in the U.S., but I'm thinking about the opposite - moving to Nicaragua. My primary concern, however, is my three-year-old son and his education. As an educator myself, this is something that is very important to me. Is the education really that terrible in Nicaragua? I know there are several private schools in Managua. What have been the experiences of others with the Nicaraguan education system? I am very curious. Thanks for any input.

To be honest with you! I think!....to get a good Education in the USA you have to pay for it$$$$$ which will cost you mucho dinero, The public schools in the USA are garbage(Dade County at least)..... I would rather raised my child in Nicaragua and put him in a private school.. Colegio Aleman(German School) children graduate speaking three languages.. There are many other options that will hone your Son into the intelligent gentleman you want him to become

I'm thinking out loud now...I wonder about the option of homeschooling in Nicaragua. I know there are lots of online colleges that will certify the mother/father/teacher with a program for a child. Has anyone tried this successfully in Nicaragua?

Don't forget about mentality and attitudes the kids will get where they are living. it's just as important or even more.

I moved from thailand to sweden last year to give my family a chance. The society is rotten in thailand and the mentality is even worse.

Sweden has all the opportunities to have a good life since they got good health care, good schools, good social benefits and most important a very healthy mentality.

Sadly my gf can't handle it and have developed some less than desirable habits the last year. It will give me some hard months ahead since I have to pluck them off her.

Managua has very good schools. If you want english education you have many to choose from American Nicaraguan School, Notre Dame, Lincoln, Christian Academy, St. Agustine, St. Dominic and a few others. El Teresiano and Colegio Centro Amaerica ara top notch schools that will provide your children with a better education than in the states. As El Greco stated, public schools system in the US has failed misserably, all they do is train you to take an exam so that the school can get a good grade and get better funding by the grade they receive.
The kind of exposure your children will be put trhu is much better as they can develop social skills becuase they can help many social causes. My children have learned to be thankful for what they have. They have seen first hand how other people live and value the things they own.
We made a choice to move here in '05 and I do not regret it 1 bit. I know that when they graduate high school, as US citizens, they will have an opportunity to attend a US University if they choose to or study anywhere else they choose.

    ^This.

There are private schools in the US that are affordable, and you can even get financial aid. Our 10 year old got a partial scholarship for next year making the tuition only about $2500.

$2500 is not bad at all, but here in Miami the private schools will cost you around $12,000 not including books and uniforms

some parents like to home school their children, but the child can miss out in interacting with other children

Mine sure wouldn't, they have their little friends in about a mile radius that as long as they all don't burn my house down, and I know where they are I have no problem with it.
