    Default The Essential Nicaraguan Library

Let's start a list of fiction and non-fiction books, films and videos that we think would educate and entertain ex-pats about life here. Every so often I'll collate all the suggestions in single, updated posts. I hope we won't bog the thread down by arguing among ourselves about the merits of specific works. People who would enjoy those discussions can start separate threads.

Well Mikeh, you are more than welcome to go into my Blog and take anything that is Nica related, (Many of my stories are not)

And use them any way you see fit, I trust you... and I also like the idea.

But you know you have put your self up for a bit of work.

Tell me what to do and I will help.
To be called a "Has Been" I must surmise, is much Greater than to be called a "Nevah Been"... JW...

I think that this idea is extremely good. What I do not know is how to implement it effectively.

Perhaps what we need is a list of books and links to their availability and/or at least a summary of the book.

This should be an obvious link on our homepage.

Some of these books are for sale at a number of locations and some are free for downloading.

Please feel free to post your ideas about structure and linking and who will structure and moderate.

A sub forum called library and each book with it's own thread.

I gave it about 24 hours of thought.

I thought of a poll on a single thread, but that is too messy and not dynamic.

A sub forum called Essential Nic Library would contain as many threads as necessary and would be dynamic. As a new book is added it would naturally be at the top. If a book is very good (or bad) it will get attention and that will sort the order.

It's interesting you should ask about Nicaragua in books. Dr. McCrary maintains a blog for Estacion Biologica. On his blog he has put forth suggestion on two separate entries. You can check them out here:

    and

    Happy reading!

This could include movies as well. IMDB.com lists a lot of movies dealing with Nicaragua.
