Default Granted, my Spanish skills are pretty

weak, but I got the impression this site was geared towards making it easy for Nicas in the States to purchase/pay for materials for Nicas in country to build with. Maybe with the premise of the money you send down to fix up that family house ACTUALLY going for fixing up the house, rather than disappearing on booze, etc.

I would be curious if something like this can actually work here, though. We're finding it hard enough to deal face to face and get stuff delivered! Not sure why every little step of the building process has to be such an adventure...it's exhausting sometimes.

    Basically thats what it is.

Theres a handful of these online. I have tried a few, like the Eskimo website. I might be a bit scared to do a large purchase from them without doing a small one first, as who knows if they even check to see if anyone made a purchase!

...but I know plenty of people up here that are always looking to purchase items for people in Nicaragua, yet are scared to send the money down, especially when some households can have a few dozen people living in them and who knows who will get to the letter first.

This webpage was advertised in the paper today.

They said you need a minimum purchase of U$50 and it says that delivery of materials is completely FREE.

Prices do appear to be a bit higher than normal though.

    Default Some local building costs...

I can't speak to Mga's prices, but we've been purchasing (from various places between Jinotepe and Rivas) cement blocks for 15 cents cheaper, cement bags 75 cents cheaper, pounds of nails 40 cents cheaper, piedras canteras 40 cents cheaper, and 3/8 inch rebar for $10 cheaper.

Those numbers add up quickly, and that's a whole lotta beer!

they are deffinitely trying to make some extra dollars on this!

I have all the reciepts from the construction of our home, but that place was built in a total of 2 1/2 years and the prices fluxuated over that time frame. I will dig them out and eventually post them, good to get a comparison 20 years down the road!
