    Default Calmly awaiting

The matriarch of the family has been in a lengthy decline in health as her 90th birthday approaches. Last reports indicate her body is not processing what's being put through the feeding tube and she's too depleted for an IV. A widow for fifteen years, her five remaining daughters are with her in Esteli today, three having just arrived after leaving Hickville this morning.

We're just sitting around waiting for the call.

I know the family feelings. I to am in that mess, and it is a sorry way to be. I have no words to express anything other than trust in the Lord and ask that her passing be a gracious one.

Thanks for the kind words. The other shoe we're waiting to hear drop is the decision on what to do with the house and the farm land. Last I heard, the decision by the heirs was one my wife and I are not very happy with. But it's their land, not ours.

Being the oldest and meanest of my family, when my mother as us knew that the candle was growing dim and would as in Adam eventually meet her maker she wanted to liquidate herself and make yearly gifts to her four living children untill she was completely broke incase she needed govenrmet assistance. I told her NO do not do this, sell your things and my sister can talk with a compentant accountant and put that $ in something that if needed can be used on you, IF there is anything left with your demise then I would not feel bad about recieveing what you want to be devided equally amongest your children. Your care comes first and foremost.

My sister had to leave her job and care for her as long as she could stand it, I told her, put yourself on the payroll nothing in life is free and I an out two brothers cannot do, you can. She eventually needed to be inrolled in a more fit place for assisted living than Diane could offer at her home, but close enough to visit very often. They are life long buddies, we boy's have been on walk about.

As she also signed papers that that her wishes were to be respected against any acts of Heroic Measures of which I agreed with that issue came up with my Baby sister wheather to have a feeding tube installed.

She asked for this to not happen with her, respect her wishes and realize she said this and signed this in a perfict state of mind. She said, if I can't eat with my mouth I want NO tubes in me PERIOD...

So now when it came to it this month as you say Jonh, I am just waiting for the final shoe to drop. It is constantly on my mind, the woman that gave life to me, how can it not be? But we all have to "Man up" to the enevitable. I did make sure with my only sister there would be no disagreements with her wishes, NO turns off the road SHE laid out. My sister asked me at about the start of this month should she go against Mom's wishes. I said No and I damn well mean it. I then got on my knees and asked God for her passing to be worthy of the christian life she did lead.... AMEN

Sorry to hear the bad news.

It is worse when people are talking about her stuff already.

I am the executor for my family and I already know I am going to have trouble with my sisters. That is why I was selected.

Like Generalissimo Francisco Franco on SNL, she's still not dead.

They ran out of oxygen the other night, she regained a bit of consciousness and got to see her daughters around her, now she's back in the twilight zone.

Well, that was third hand info via a Nica grapevine, so take it for what it's worth.

Death eludes her. She's still on a feeding tube, one foot over the line, the other foot just won't budge.

We went to bed last night with balmy tropical breezes blowing through the house. At about five in the morning I had to close all the windows and cover the kids because the wind had turned cold.

A couple hours later we got the call that Abuelita had died at 4:00 Nica time.

    Condolences to the family.

I once heard an expression that I hope I can hang on to when it comes time for me to face the passing of my parents, "During this time of loss don't mourn their death but celebrate their life." Bendiciones.
