Post NEW: Direct flights to ROME (FCO)

Starting 11 July 2012, BluePanorama Airlines (?) starts weekly 767 service between Rome and Managua. Flights operate on Wednesdays:

BV 1346 departs Roma 1215p arrives Managua 745p (flight makes intermediate stop in the socialist workers paradise of Havana -- 2 hours on ground)

BV 1346 departs Managua 845p arrives Roma 435p +1 (yes it is the same flight number and yes it is non-stop)

Apparently "sometime" in October the return flight will also stop in Havana. Could not find anything about them having local rights on the MGA-HAV segments.

Also, apparently this is a European LCC specializing in holiday markets. However, their website does claim to have a "business class" cabin on this route.

Wonder if this is a delayed effect of the Corn Island Survivor series?

Cold beer, rum, very expensive cigars ( Esteli cigars are as good and 80% cheaper), lousy food...that's about it...all served to you by very friendly Cubans that make a dollar a day...welcome to the workers paradise.

I never smoke cigars, and for the life of me cannot understand why anyone does. I mentioned you guys and your Cuban knock-offs in Esteli to some of the guys I know and they want me to try to get some. How do you go about doing that? I know there is the internet, but I would like to knock out any middle man profit if I could. Let me know if any of you guys have any ideas so I can be star for a day in the office.
    Thanks

    PM Fishercigarman about Esteli cigars.

One other thing you can get in Havana on a quick stopover - venereal disease.

The Esteli cigars are great and an important industry for NI...many large and small makers..they do not make the knock off cigars, many owners are Cuban Americans , their families were from Cuba in the cigar industry..some are ranked in top 10 in world..Esteli is a very interesting city..a lot cooler then Leon, Managua..very peaceful having a cigar sitting in Park across from main church...watching the children laughing while parents enjoy conversation...best way to do it...Come On Down and enjoy the ride

Don't expect this route to last long; LaPrensa reports a grand total of 23 passengers arrived on the inaugural flight last night. The local travel agency/GSA (Anyway Travel) reports they have sold 23 tickets for NEXT week's flight. And they call that "successful".

    The plane's capacity is 272.

A few weeks back a delegation was here visiting from Italy and I heard that flights were soon to start, I figured yeah right. Was in MGA and saw the pic of the plane landing in MGA, was surprised to say the least.

I kinda thought it would help boost tourism on this side. A few years ago the Italian "Survivor" series filmed here, but it may have been too long ago for people to remember.

Didn't Iberia fly nonstop to Spain from MGA for awhile? Anyone ever here any more about Air Nicaragua?

In MGA I sometimes see the AeroCaribbean that flies to Habana.

Randude you can buy perfectly good Dominican or Nicaraguan Cigars cheaper than you will pay for the counterfeit trash.

We flew Iberia from Miami to Managua a couple times way back when, but I don't remember if they flew direct to Spain.

Nope, this is the first non-stop/direct service between Europe and MGA. Years ago Iberia ran a Caribbean/CentAm "mini-network" with MIA as its hub (Air France did the same for the Caribbean).

After 9-11, the US government did away with the TWOV (Transit Without Visa)program. Never really heard a sound security reason for the change considering any foreign national in TWOV status was always confined to the secure airside of any transit airport. The major change was that many travelers who need a USA visa stopped transiting the USA -- a big loss to USA-based airlines, and thus the advantage to having nonstop/direct service from CenAm countries to Europe.
