    Default Free AVAST

I have messed with this twice in two different computers. The old one and this one... Every single time it comes for the end of the 1 year thing it eff's up the computer... Should I go on and buy it? or Norton? I am to the neck with the thing messing me up just to make me buy something. It is not much but I despise to be blackmailed and misled...

I use the free Avast and never had a problem! Norton tends to be a huge Resource hog, so I stay far away from it

I've been using Microsoft's Security Essentials for four years, no problems.

If it keeps prompting you to buy or upgrade you can go ahead and remove it. There might be some way to turn that off. But here is a tutorial on removing it, looks like it even has a video how-to at the end.

One word of warning for the folks (still) running XP

In April 2014 Micro$oft will stop supporting XP. No updates.

Micro$oft will still be writing updates for Vista, 7 and 8.

Many of the holes plugged in vista,7 and 8 will be "revealed" as open in XP.

This will give the bad guys a open pointer on how to attack your XP computer.

Start budgeting to switch to Win 7 or 8 at this time.

    Also Ubuntu is an option..

You might want to try Avira Antivirus. Consumer Reports gives the free version a higher rating than many of the expensive ones. I've used it for years with no problem. It does give you a pop up ad when you update it but that is the only drawback.
