    The Little Bean Game

The government buys beans cheap on speculation, causing a rise in prices. (Beans for speculation)

This same government now sells it "cheaper," but with a higher price. (The same beans at "solidarity" prices.)

Everyone is complaining about the price of beans. 24 pesos /pound here in Condega. We don't get any cheap beans from La Chamu, I heard that's only some loyal barrios in Managua,, getting them for C$18

Rumour here is, the beans are going to Venezuela, don't know if it's true or not.

Seems like every year or 2 there is some bean "drama". To me this would be the "logical" time of year to see price increases as production decreases during the dry. Maybe there are a few people that irrigate beans but I have never heard of any. Somewhere I read (I believe in the past year) that some farmers were upset as they were being "asked" to grow Black Beans (Nicas are not big on Black Beans, I believe Black Beans are the preferred bean in Venezuela).

One thing is certain, the Government is a huge buyer/consumer of beans. Many times I have seen the "commodities" being unloaded at schools for the kids to have a meal while there. How they do it here is they send a few pounds of beans, flour, or pinolilo home with a kid and their family cooks the beans or other for the week, and the kid takes some in every day for the class to eat.

Far as the "cow" boat goes they were (assume they still are) a common site in Rama. Loading cows as fast as the trucks can unload them.

I would expect US importers to pay the highest market price, the "solidarity brothers" in Venezuela or Cuba to pay the lowest price, but by force of contract.

Either way, it leaves less beans for the domestic market, so prices would naturally rise.

Other countries have raised it up the flag pole to see who salutes it. Many forecasters swear it's inevitable.

With what's going on in Venezuela I can't believe the guy even made a statement like that. ..."pay out the Nicaraguan dollar accounts in Cordobas . . . "

Even Ortega has probably moved his dollars to the US after hearing that one . . .

Course, the Dong might be the Nicaraguan national currency in ten years . . and then again, probably not.. Would need to build that canal first.

At nearly a year since aggression and robbery of Occupy INSS youths...

Madam Fiscal: What has the invidtigation of the Occupy INSS youths not had results? Why is it being tossed around so much with them? Why so much impunity? Why the complicity?

I don't know about that yarn, other ones here are knitting it.

    Options

Expensive beans - "solidarity" price from inept regulators
Super expensive beans - price from intermediary hoarders
Criminal price beans - price of insensitive traders taking advantage of the shortage
