Thread: Well, There Went The Canal

Default Well, There Went The Canal

    http://www.laprensa.com.ni/2015/07/1...enena-malditos

Mother of the two dead kids showing off the beating SHE got from the police.

------if there really ever was a canal.

Chinese wouldn't have a probem with this, but most others will.

Another article has DO trying to get Taiwan to take over the Monkey Point project after Korea and Brazil abandoned it.

The man does have some cojones. Ma Ying-Jeou can clearly be seen thinking: " Why isn't he asking his Chinese mainland buddies for this help? I just built a bridge for him. What have they done recently"? And,,, "Will I have a chance to see the canal construction while I'm here"?

The canal is a Nica version of Waiting for Godot.

    Godot?

    It's more like

    Laureano Waiting for Big Wang

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Waiting_for_Godot

Is this some allegory about Nicaragua? It does seem to explain a lot.

I made the observation long ago that giving money to Nicaraguans is sorta like pouring water on a sponge that doesn't absorb water. Keep pouring and it stays dry. It seems that part of the culture is that poverty pays. Whether it the chick on the corner with 3 toddlers and a bun in the oven looking for a handout (I offered her some condoms) or the presidents with their hand out to the world, it's the same. Microcosm and macrocosm.
political correctedness has run wild and the outrage police are everywhere

It is very odd. There is a long standing partnership between Taiwan and Nicaragua that throws back to the days of blatant geopolitics (now just subtile)

Not sure "Wud up whit dat" (The port petition)

Could be an admission of the canal being a hoax or it could be Danny boy is not willing to throw himself 100% behind the Chinese (Well the Mainland Chinese anyways)

Spent almost 6 months in Taiwan in 2 and 3 week stints from 2004 to 2008 - Absolutely fascinating place.

These meetings typically end up with big promises, no matter who it is, for big aid projects or money donations. Someone should keep a list.

    The odd one comes through.

It's probably more a populist thing to keep the masses placated,,, not unlike the estafa organized religion runs:

Life is tough now, but live your life like we tell you, keep us flush, and paradise awaits. Could be worse,, they could be asking us to strap on suicide vests with the resulting collateral damage.

Memories are short. Colorful illustrations of Monkey Point, completion date 2012; Bolivar refinery in Leon, completion date 2007; Grand Oceanic Canal, completion date 2019. As soon as a new circus promised, the crowd forgets the one promised last year. DO has improved on the Roman model,,, he doesn't even have to feed people to the lions and face the wrath of the PETA crowd complaining about the lion's diet.

Hopes for a piece of pork to supplement the rice, beans and bananas is really all there is for many.

At least the Chamuka trees are real . . . not much else has been.
