“Not even the Chamorro-Bryan Treaty (of 1914) ... approaches the level of sellout of the Ortega-Wang Treaty, which gives the latter – a special super-agent of the Chinese government – a territory amounting to nearly half of Nicaragua in which the national laws do not apply, they don’t pay taxes and they can develop many kinds of business enterprises.”

Havana Times is a dot-org ‘magazine’ in English edited by a US citizen who works out of Nicaragua. ‘Nicaragua’ is the sole country tab of some 13 on the heading. It’s a mystery to me why he puts “(Confidencial)” after authors’ names? (I doubt it’s a nod to Jerry Lee Lewis’ HS Confidential.) Whatever. They clearly don't dig the canal treaty.

He works out of Nicaragua because it would be impossible to do the research and writing in Cuba.

When I was there,, there was realistically no internet and the Cuban government wanted to keep it that way. All computers had to be registered with the government.

What little internet there was, was only available in upscale hotels and ran at dial up speed.

I would have loved to retire to Cuba,, along with many others. The country has everything, and I expected to see high speed ferries making the passage from Key West (more realistically now,, from Miami or Fort Meyers).

The political dynamic here is so complicated that it would take pages to analyze it.

The bottom line is Florida's electoral votes.

My advice has always been: visit Cuba while you still have a chance to see it in it's pristine state. The Cuban people love Gringos. While still dunking their own citizens' heads in buckets of shit, the police treat the tourists with kid gloves. They need that foreign exchange,, maybe more now than ever.
