That Nicaragua doesn't go down this rathole

    http://money.cnn.com/2017/11/02/news...ing/index.html

If the mess in North Korea goes anywhere,, Nicaragua might be in the cross hairs.

As usual, their choice of friends leaves much to be desired.
Unfortunately, not much is known of Nicaragua in the US.
It's easy to demonize someone you don't know.
    A cheap and easy scapegoat.

But, as Cuba regresses, and Venezuela twists -endlessly-- in the wind,,
Nicaragua still has North Korea, Iran, and Russia to fall back on.

Let it twist,, really little downside for the US:
Socialism shown in action in Venezuela; well-educated Venezuelans (and Cubans) flee to the US. Beats the hell out of Muslim terrorist immigrants from Uzbekistan.

An NPR special described how the Cubans are now coming up from Ecuador (and Colombia leaving Venezuela), walking a good part of the way -to the promised land.

The Russians supposedly have dibs on Venezuela's oil. Not sure why a country that rich in natural resources would be in debt, but if socialists ran the desert they'd run out of sand in six months.

Not just the Russians, they are up to their ears in hock to the Chinese and the Indians as well.
No one really knows the total indebtedness.
All of these will jockey for position. China and India need the oil, Russia does not.

Rosneft owns half of CITGO, if Venezuela defaults (and it sounds like they are finally looking the possibility in the face), that will get interesting.
CITGO being mostly in the US.

Venezuelan oil is being rejected for quality reasons.
    Tanker loads at a time.
    The entire infrastructure is unraveling . . . .

WHERE is Sean Penn when they really need him?
He and Oliver Stone could fix this.

And they accuse the US of “conquest” - we didn’t ask for one drop of mideast oil or a penny of compensation and we’re accused of occupying and conquoring. Debt is the new warfare, just pick a weak victim, make them owe you, and sit back and wait for all their stuff to become yours.

"Venezuela should put its state oil company PDVSA into Chapter 15 US bankruptcy protection and then default on an estimated US$63bn of bond obligations, according to the lead adviser to Greece during the country’s debt restructuring in 2012."
from Reuters International Financing Review, Sept 20

Remember how Greece drove the EU - esp. the Germans - nuts?

Nicaragua is more indebted to WalMart than to Russia. The Waltons - who probably own a significant portion of Congress - will protect little Nicaragua. And then there is Pellas with his heavy US connections: Nicas are protected as long as Pellas keeps the Ortegas in current model, black SUVs.

News about Venezuela's eminent demise has been grabbing headlines since that pain-in-the-ass Chavez croaked in 2013. Something's amiss here.

    It's called capitalism, bro.

We're good as long as we have the world's leading financial experts on our side, and the others play by the global rules of lending/banking that we write.

But then you've got to wonder: are we part of the 'We'?

Will I be able to get World Series on SKY in Nicaragua??
I remember SKY in CR, had a lot of good stuff. There is a SKY outlet in Estelí . . .

Where’s all that Bolivarian solidarity when Venezuela needs it? I don’t see the rest of Latin America rushing in to rescue them.
