    Default First Box

First boxes are on their way.

    4 in total - 2 ours - 2 for family

    24" squared - two
    20x20x24 One
    18x18x24 - One

Quoted price was $125US per box.

All 4 went for $275 as Chilo bartered 2 old big screen TVs I fixed for $100 off.

Transit time is 6 to 8 weeks.

Cost above includes all clearing costs and taxes. Box has to be picked up in Managua.

Fellow allowed box #4 for the overflow.

Our container (40'er) will be used for the next shipment.

He is open to the idea.

Oh - I did not answer your Q KWP.

We are using "Raymond" and "Bernardo"

THe extended family used another fellow for over a decade until he started to get "Sticky fingers" and they moved to these two in 2008 ish time scale.

They rent a 40'er and fill 'er up every 6 to 8 months - then go down clear and , if requested, deliver for a small extra fee.

    ===Edit Rubin, not Raymond ====

The set of boxes is the harbinger of surprises.

So about a week after the boxes left it was a 50F day and sunny and I wanted to wear my sandals - Nope Chilo packed them away in the box for shipment down south.

Two weeks ago I was looking for my larger coffee mug - Nope in te box on its way.

Last night Chilo made Taquitos and she asked me to cut the massive cabbage we had bought in half for shaving - "Sure just hand me the Ikea cleaver" - Nope - It is in the box going down south.

    What is the next suprize..

Container packed in North York, truck to FLA (I am guessing Miami) then it ends up in a bonded whse in MGA - If it actually lands on a Nicaraguan dock, or just ends up in Nicaragua after landing in Panama or Honduras I do not know.

Chilo got a call today - Ruben wanted to be sure of all the contact numbers as the container arrived in Honduras last week and crossed the border last night.

It arrives in Managua for review Tomorrow and should take 2 days.

It took Ruben by surprise that it was so quick. His ticket (the shipper) was for Dec 23 as he believed it would not arrive until late Dec

    The blown tires, the borders,

The High 'n Dry (2011 Sante Fe) is all paid this summer - Want to send it down in 2020 - I say drive it down - Chilo is still too afraid.

As a compromise I may see how driving it to Miami effects the price of the boat for the last leg - Looks like a lot of Panamerican trekkers did that when the troubles popped up this summer.

Now after the Sante Fe is gon a plan a small pick up to do the trek once a year from 2021 onward with or without the missus

You won't regret it. I love Mexico.

    And Guatemala. And Honduras.

    It's like, ok,, we're here,,,Nicaragua.
Don't get me wrong, Nicaragu is great too.

    So much promise.

We are told the boxes will exit Aduna on the 18th or 19th - Interesting to see if KWP observations percolate down the nationals importing care boxes. They say no, I am not so optomistic.

Next 2 days - turned to 18 to 20th which now released on the 28th.

    Next boxes being packed now.

Buddy was real impressed with the 2x2x2 box of OSB - Makes it easy for him to pack. I will do the same for the next load.

Xmas (October on) is traditionally a bad time for aduanas. I ordered some small stuff from china months ago, it was last seen leaving correos de mexico in Monterrey along time ago. Here's hoping! It has fallen into the Ebay gulag, so after the 1st of the year if it is not here I will have to get online and track it down.

Also, you might want to pack in exterior grade plywood and then use the wood for something here.

1/4" OSB is like $12 here ($9 US) and the 2x2 are like a buck 25 for 8'. Heck, I think the screws are the most expensive part.

And maybe build the boxes to dimensional lumber size.
    4 x 8 ext plywood with 2 x 4 corners.

SS deck screws, square head, lots of them.

    Put in lights and switches.

Nic plywood is termite food and they go thru it quickly. I suspect US exterior ccx would hold up better. The glue is probably toxic.
Better to use nicolit sheets here for indoor stuff. It comes in various thicknesses.

Drywall screws here suck. The chems in many woods rust them and then they break or stick solid if you ever try to take them out. Hell, just being here rusts them. Yellow screws hold up much better and once in a blue moon you find galvanized deck screws.

So Dec 18 became Dec 29 - Imagine that

    - BIL called that the boxes were in the rented P/U ($10) and are on the way back to his place. No additional fees or charges.

Odd that they were open on Sunday to pick up, mind this is pick up from the broker, not from the customs people.

The wood box was still closed which bodes well for the Cardboard ones as well.
