Watch the numbers--they arrest more than they free!

Its all just negotiating hype, on both sides. The opposition has clearly been trounced in
round 1 but has to keep the talking war up to stay in the fight. The current regime loves talking so it costs them nothing.

Lotta fear out there. Somebody just contacted a family member to inquire about the political affiliation of family X. Seems X wants to rent a house from these people but they were here in the 80s when renting to a Sandinista could cost you your house. Another relative just bought a house here for reasons I know not why. Originally she planned to rent it out but decided she didn't want the risk so it will be a family flop house for whoever is in town.

I went to Sinsa yesterday for 8 items and they were out of 4, and one they couldn't sell me because it wasn't in the compu, a Sinsa specialty. I even braved the Sinsa warehouse which used to be a guaranteed 45 minute trip to hell but I got thru in 2 minutes.

    Why do you say that?

I have met him and his family and they are great people.
Actually, they are Canadians.....hmmmmm....maybe that explains it, eh?

He comes across in the video as disingenuous and loud to me - Kinda like "that dude" talking loud on a phone on a street or a mall. <shrug> .

Now my frame of reference is only his two videos I have watched - The one portion that struck me (June 2018 video) was a small restaurant that he was looking to go too and seemed somehow miffed that it was closed negating the current circumstances... (Just watched it again - It was Leche Algrea that was closed at that time.

But anyways - Not knowing him from adam what do I know...

The personal "Ex-ally" of the dictator?

The civic-government alliance agreements "could be solidified with executive decrees or legal reforms."

Article in La Prensa by Carlos Mejia Godoy,, his point exactly.

Danny is just playing for time,, signing anything, hoping the Russians bail him out again.
At least send a couple of plane loads of troops. Or some more tanks. Something.

Article in El Nuevo Diario over the weekend,,, from some analyst in Spain,, written from a Spanish perspective,
that a new cold war is developing in the Caribbean,, Nicaragua,, Venezuela, Cuba,, against the US.

Just like the good old days,, but it's a completely different world.
The US may be going socialist,, according to AOK and Reilly Too, but most of Europe seems to be moving right.

Danny is playing a dangerous game.
With 40% of his exports going TO the US, and nothing really unique to sell anyway except rum and puros,,
The OAS and most of the European Union pushing back,,
and most of his oil coming FROM the US

.......if he catches John Bolton or Mike Pompeo on a bad day,, things could go south quickly and painfully (rather than slowly,, painfully, which is what is happening now).

Upside,, Lomo de Res on sale at La Colonia for $3 /pound.
Chicken is going up,,, Beef is going down.

The floating lead cork in action. Always,, winners and losers.

Had a melt-in-mouth filet mignon at Asados El Corral in Granada this weekend. The 12 oz tenderloin cost me what we paid for an A/C'd room with king bed, wifi & TV (never watched), which is to say $20. Living high. La Calzada was packed Fri nite; med lite Sat, mostly Nicas. Had a couple cold Guinness & shepherd's pie at O'Shea's - he's in the hospital for a "head injury". Empty streets & park during the days. Had a great time with the kid in the playgrounds along the lakeshore. Beautiful, lots of big old shade trees, a pleasant breeze off the lake. Lots of kids wading in the fresh water - out 100 yds and only waist deep.

I read where the Pres of the narco-state Mexico López Obrador (AMLO) has asked the king of Spain to apologize for Hernán Cortés' conquest of that territory 500 yrs ago, and also Pope Francis for the killing so many heathens in the name of God back then. It would seem AMLO and AOC are drinking the same kool-aid. Or is it just LAm politics?

Time is in DOS' favor: he & his aren't going to suffer. Many others will. At this point his control looks solid. The opposition appear to be only masked, street-gang hooligans. Nicaragua ain't a bad place to be now. I couldn't help but notice: Granada's central plaza flew only two flags, the red & black, and the municipal. The third flag pole was empty. (Will some brave soul hoist CR's flag on it?) There were lots of police patrols along the Calzada. They were entering hotels and making lists.

    My feeling, exactly.
Granada has improved with the dearth of Gringo tourists.
I've noticed too,, that food is not discounted that much,, if at all.
Cheap beer, but food is still pricey.

Perfect time of year here on the farm,, crisp nights and warm days, even hot afternoons.
The batteries are fully charged by 11AM

    Humidity was 34% yesterday.
When the wind blows it really dries things out fast.

I can't help but ponder how my life would have been different if I had chosen to live in Granada instead of purchasing a farm.
I can't ponder too long,, have to go feed the pigs and chickens.

Nicaraguans now know those who cannot unload their homes and cannot live "Full campo" Rice beans and quahada(sp?) and the market prices accordingly - They had a year to figure the remainers and day tourists out...

Sanity, for me, is 6 months in Gringolandia and 6 in this land of lakes, volcanoes and revolutionary fervor. I probably spend too much time circling within the confines of my own mind, but I recognize the occasional necessity for full submersion in humanity. Sometime I like vanilla, sometimes chocolate.

Real estate in Leon, even after 13 yrs, is incomprehensible to me. What is real value? Early on I preferred banking my life forces into Nabokov's unreal estate. Sometime near the peak of the gringo rush to buy, when the Century 21 realtors used to jog around our neighborhood, we sought to change apartments. A more central, tho hardly appealing place, something of a converted garage, want $700/mo (e- & water separate), as tho it bordered Soho in Manhattan. Beside it was a huge building where UCAN held its classes the first year my sis'n-law attended. When the owner sought to raise the rent, UCAN moved out. The building has remained vacant for the last 11 years, never a rent or sale sign. Ditto for the Chile Inn, or of somesuch name, a dive opened by a Canadian to lure gringas that did a gangbuster business when the flux of pale-faced, aimless youth thru Leon was high. The hostal/restaurant had a small pool and there was gossip of nude parties & drugs (ask'd for a coke and got a big, knowing smile & hesitation before serving the drink). The landlady must have heard and evicted them. For the past 8 years or so it's been empty after cleaning (ahem) and refurbishing, with a huge For Rent/Sale on it the while. Real estate turnover is a foreign concept. What's the need when no heating or cooling or transportation is needed and one can live on gallo pinto and pinol, or the mangos & avocadoes that fall on the zinc roof?

You should work for the Chamuka,, writing tourist brochures.
That is the life I want + 50 cent Toñas. Too much to ask for ???

I don't hate Gringos,, in fact, I miss my set, and most I've found down here are at least . . . interesting.

I haven't seen the big Gringo hater,, nor heard from her, in . . years.
Miz Brown is probably on Facebook exclusively,, and I just don't have the time of interest.
    The pigs again.

I bought them pretty young,, they needed milk,, and now we are at loggerheads. They fattened up quickly on a diet of milk,, oats from PriceSmart, and ground corn, a liquid mush warmed to teat temperature. I tasted it, added a little salt,, and some Aunt Jemima buttery syrup.

Now,, they won't eat their concentrado,, squealing for their mama.
Well,, Daisy squeals, El Chepito (named after Krisnia's husband) just grunts endlessly.
I had him castrated when I bought him.

"Oscar, is there a special feed for younger pigs?" "Yes", says Oscar"
    "Give me a quintal"

So Oscar throws a bag of feed on top of the chicken feed,, when I get home it's the same stuff that I already have.
Things are really slow for Oscar,, all the Ag guys guys die from end of Feb to beginning of May.
He's a good friend,, can't blame him. But,, Jesus,, that embra can squeal. I can't focus on my post.

Oscar knows,, as do I, that they will eat whatever when they get hungry.
The proof is all the campo pigs rooting by the side of the road in the garbage.

Yeah, that struck me as ironic too. But I think I get it. We can't fall into the trap of lumping all North Americans into one bag or we're no better than the race-bating haters. It's the rotten apples like the Studio 54 proprietors, or the pale zombies marching off the SJDS cruise ships and fearing to venture past the first block off the wharf. The pale-faced aimless youth, the yoga instructors, the trust fund kids, the starry-eyed communists, and the backpackers.
