    Default Granada: The New Reality

Good crowd on the Calzada, it's Friday night.

Like Las Peņitas last week, almost all Nica with the odd PaleFace mixed in. We wound up with a room at La Calzada for $39, which turned out to be indeed on the Calzada,, but a bit of a dump. We could have stayed at the Colon on the central park for $75.

My incessant bargain hunting is often my undoing.

Oh yes. I share this fatal flaw. I will spend hours looking and go miles out of my way to find a bargain.

La Calzada was really not a dump,, plenty of hot water, very nicely appointed room. All the lights were turned off in the lobby and pool area leading to our room. I had to hold up the CC chit to the light from the bar (Key West namesake,, Hogsbreath. Bar was deserted, but super loud music kept us up until midnight.

Again, we were the only guests on a Friday night. The central park was deserted, not a single horse carriage,, lots of places boarded up. Dark

Only about two blocks of the Calzada, starting a block down from the cathedral, are fired up. Like Las Peņitas, people cluster in a few favored places. One restaurant has a good crowd,, place next door deserted.

But,, $19,, that is a steal of a deal. A guy could afford to live here with prices like that
