My best friend is (retired now) a Naval Aviator (unrestricted, meaning Helo, props, jets). Over the years I got to be in some simulators, I crashed a helicopter so bad that I thought I had a concussion, was real life simulator and going down was a bitch.

Few years later I landed a jet on the deck on first try, guys were clapping as I climbed out of the simulator.

Helo too complicated for me but plane I could do, stuck it, and they were amazed.

Watched 3 bits on the Cobra 500 (2020 model) yesterday as it was revealed on the 28th. The Youtubbers then released their recordings on the 29th, showed up in my feeds on the 29th and actually got to them on hte 31st.

This thing is a MONSTER... more than 700HP and can get it all to the road intelligently.

It is a thing of beauty as well..

Our leaves are gone, we had some "Gone before noon" snow on Sunday morning - 40 min south (by my Moms place) there is still a good amount of leaves on the trees still, but about a week past peak colour.

3 hours north, where Canadian Cabin guy Shawn is, there is a full cover - Mind you the ground is not frozen yet so it may not stay.

    Interesting video

This one seemed pretty new (in terms of hours actually run,, it had a smooth sound).

When they need serious work, you are confronted with the high costs of parts, and availability. It would be fun to rebuild a little engine like that,, but you could probably buy a new one cheaper.

I can remember when we had all those lawnmower shops, who did that kind of work,, and guys made a good living at it.

I recently bought a generator to replace one I had had on the farm for almost ten years. The original genertor was a Harbor Freight,, engine still ran ok, didn't smoke,, electric start which was nice,, but a circuit board that controlled output voltage failed. Impossible to get.

It's replacement was a slightly smaller unit, 4000 vs 5000 watts, from PriceSmart, for $400 including tax. It turned out to be a nice machine,, built in China for a distributor in Fontana, CA,, undoubtedly came up from Panama. It's not electric start.

I have four Ryobi drill motors, they are starting to show their age. They get the shit beat out of them,, used continuously on construction projects. I'm thinking of replacing them with Harbor Freight units. It's a big decision because of the battery issue.

Harbor Freight has been introducing some upper scale brands, like Bauer and Hercules. The stuff looks really nice.
They have hand tools now that they claim complete with Snap-On (tool truck quality).
I have a lot of Chicago Electric,, I've got a metal cut off saw that has cut hundreds of perlins and cajas, and is still going strong.
I've had as many failures with name brand tools,, Ryobi, Porter Cable, as I have had with Chicago Electric.

I really like the idle switch,, that would save a lot of gas , my guys are pretty good, shut it off when they are not using it,, but even so, there is a lot of dead time when you are doing things like welding perlins.

Keep the Ryobi's - The Cheap chinese are different than the Japanise items made in China. I have 17 Ryobi tools - 6 of the drills (Hammer, impact and regular) and yes they get a shitkicking but last ... BIL bought Mastercraft (Largest hard goods retailer up here) that sellf H/F equiv tools - They crack and break as they fall.

I have so many drills? Yes - A lot of times the batteries (x2) and a charger are cheaper with a drill then to buy 2 batteries on thier own new - I have like 12 batteries now as well the Li-ion are so much better.

The oldest is from a set I bought in 1998 (Drill, Sawsall and Vacuum and light) all still work great - Just wore out the old Ni-cads.

Next box will have some of my overflow Ryobi tools just B/C of that.

I have three Ni Cads left. I use them for the old ryobi flashlights. Their extra weight makes a good base, and the are are discharged to zero, as they are supposed to be. The swivel heads are handy for putting the light where you need it..

A headband light would probably work better.
I buy a couple of the larger Li Ion batteries every Christmas when they get $10 or so cheaper. The Li Ion batteries are handy as we can recharge them at the end of day,, irregardless of the charge level. No memory effect.

The newer Harbor Freight stuff looks and feels impressive,, big upgrade from Chicago Electric. I was at Home Depot today,, doing some comparisons, and they compare favorably with Makita and Ryobi.. Heavier, more compact.

I'll probably buy a tool or two,, their battery powered circular saw is 6.5 inches, and my old Ryobi is only 4.5 as I remember. Try them out,, see what I think.
We used the hell out of that little circular saw,, so handy.

Clearly it's not going to work all day, but so much easier than stretching out a cord if you only have a cut or two.

I have built 2 of these..

The first was a full size chest freezer like this one it held 5 - 20L with one 30L in the mix

It was too much and we took it back to a regular freezer and then built the same in a 4.5cuft freezer. That is what we use now with 2 - 20L or a 20L and a 30L - We get the kegs from a local brewer at $2/l

I might do the same down in Niclandia but I am also tossing around a "cold room" thought as well - Not sure which - I guess it depends on what I do with solar.

Asi es la comida de $1 . . . in Managua. I got to 2:25. The french fries were cold and mushy, BUT, he says, "if your very hungry, they're super delicious." Presumably targeting a dollar's worth to appeal to the international backpacker crowd. However, 'Surviving on a dollar-a-day in Nicaragua' may be more apt for a sociology class on extreme poverty around the world.
