That bushman Shawn James is back and building again.

Since I put up the first link he is mostly done the sauna and is now lumbering on with a covered porch.

He does not go into detail in this video on screening in the porch, but it is pretty much a pre-req in in "da nort" to screen in the porch with mosquito, black fly, deer flies and the like.

Actually it surprises me how few if any Nicaraguan screened in porches there are - For sure our porch on floor 2 will be screened just to keep the sketters out, or at least to a minimum.

====Edit==== He does talk about bugs and screening in at the end.

Screening in general is rare and many houses are open between the zin and the wall. Bugs, bats, dirt, wind and rain all find their way in.

I'm used to the Florida rooms,, any outside area has to be screened.
Something to think about shipping. Screen selection is limited.

This is Franklin's BBQ - It is a dormant youtube channel from 7 yrs ago that had a few revivals here and there which did not take off.

It came from a set run on PBS back in 2013 - Some real good smoker, meat and temperature info here.

His restaurant has an almost religious following down in Texas.- It is in Austin Tx

I hope to go there one day - Possibly on one of my drives down to Niclandia.

Sunday was a busy day and the link I was going to post - So I'll just do the Sunday and Monday posts on Monday.

Maria was with her nephew cleaning a government housing apartment - Apparently buddy who died was on social supported housing and OD'ed on Opiods and was there for a few days - Nephew is a wheeler dealer and gets odd contract jobs like this and calls in family and friends for some cash to complete. a fellow who was a refugee claimant from Nicladia with the rest of the family 30 yrs ago (Citizen the last 20) They did not have to do the nasty stuff, but the entire place had to be taken bare to the walls, cleaned - prepped and painted.

I finished a bunch of stuff on the camp, mulch (16 back) weeds, soil (11 bags) , deck stain, dech repair, the a bunch of stuiff at the house.

Then as Chilo got home (6PM) we got a call that Chilo's sister wanted another weekend off (they had been on vacation the past 3) and wanted us to do a 4the week cleaning an office. SIL and her husband have a cleaning business on the side and do offices and houses so off we went to do that. It pays about $30 to $35 for a 3/4 hour work.

This is the sort of joe jobs we will have at our disposal once we are on split time in 2021 for the summer, well may to october that is.

    Anyways

Seen this Beato video go by this weekend and was debating on History of R&R or here - as the HORR thread is pretty thin I will drop it here...

Still remember this on Friday night videos on NBC in the early 90's

    Monday post...

So rambling on on the Sunday post about the camp.

This fellow (I think I posted already one of his) Is in AZ and does a lot of cool things on his farm - Rainwater catchment, greenhouse, chickens et al.

Made the same fire ring he did in this video. Mind you I did not realize how welding changes the structure of cold rolled steel and I could not get the good senter circle. After 3 yrs of burning a lot of really big logs I need to redo it . Probably in July. I want to have it better suited to hold a dutch oven to boll beans, cook chili etc etc.

Want one of these on our lot as well in Masaya. Have to see the availability of 16ga cold rolled in niclandia....

The solar squirrel goes after lead acid from June 24.

The best take away from this rambling rant is "If your lead acid lasted 8 years you bought far to much lead acid cells and far too many panels"

Again he is all over the map (spoken by a person who is all over the map myself)

    He makes good points.

If I were starting right now I'd spend the extra money for Lithium.

I'm going to watch again tonight and look at his numbers more carefully.

I've paid my dues and am very comfortablevwoth flooded LA. There's a lot to be said for not re-inventing the wheel.
    I'm at a point where,
if it works,, don't fix it.

Stumbled across this fellow yesterday, again.

Apparently I watched one of his Alaska cabin videos last summer (2018)

This is Dave Whipple - a fellow who pours concrete in Mi (Cadillac Mi to be precise) who also builds cabins in Alaska.

Apparently every year he drives from Cadillac to Fairbanks to get to his cabin. The trip below is his June 2018 run up there in, what at best I can tell, is a Ford focus with 245,000 mi. Now that is bravery.

He drives through some of my favorite territory, North of superior from min 5 to something like min 15.

A drive like this (but to Tuktoyaktuk ) is for me maybe summer of year 2 we are done the work a day life.

Today Westen gets a 40 yr old Belarus tractor started.

Before my Dad came for a visit in 2010 (to Niclandia) I did not realise how many of these POS beasts were imported to Niclandia - My Dad has a hate on for these like no other mechanical item I know of (and he buys Fords!!)

In Europe, in the 50's and 60's they were the poor man's tractor and meant to keep you poor by not being running when it was needed and having you rent / borrow equipment to finish what the Belarus started. Parts were cheap, but not available - Or at least that is what I am told.

Back when our plot, by the old Victoria sugar mill (5 mz) was at least a pipe dream, we toyed with bringing in a tractor. I wanted to bring in a Massy 35 but all of the others thought it to be too expensive and they should all just buy a Belarus tractor.

It is 11 yrs for the 5 mz now (2008 and $350) and through the entire time there was only one year of Yucca and cow grazing. THe cool thing is though that the one year of Yucca did give $500 bucks on land rent so we are plus $150 for the plot. I am completely convinced that the 14 co-op holders purely bought on speculation and never ever planning to use the land to its potential.

Anyways - Here is Westen and his redneck ways on this $500 tractor.

Yesterday (Saturday) was a bit of an internet washout as power to our part of the part was without power and we were stewing a pot of Sopa de Rez

    The Conestoga Chooo Chooo

Our region got its LRT system started on June 21 after about a decade bantering about.

The final total was a over 800M for the Choo Choo and a little over 800m for infrastructure - About 5 yrs of construction.

17km done and has a phase 2 starting soon to the south end of the Tricities (Kitchener Waterloo Cambridge)

It is no charge until the end of Canada Day (July 1) Chilo and I took a ride on the 23rd - Probably do another in Canada day as well

A lot of clips on YouTube - This one is lengthy enough - A 4:34 it passes our street (We live about 1.5 klicks up) at 5:35 is our local station - 17:00 is our local farmers market - THe video ends by the old Kaufman shoe factory (Right side) - Designed by the architect that did most of the Packard and Ford buildings in Detroit in the late 1910's - In the distance you can see the Google building that has something like 1,000 ppl now.

I would like to see the same in Niclandia but think the chance of it happening ic close to zero if not negative.

This is cool a 18650 based power wall.

We up here in OnScario have a smart metered set up where raw pour is $0.08/kWh for off hours and $0.16 for peak hours. The delivery charge typically is 60 to 80% of the actual usage charge - So there is some benefit in a cheap power wall.

The boards are GNU, so you can DL the Gerbers - Get them built in China (Or buy his Chinese built versions) assemble - Pop in the batteries, plug that into a grid tie inverter through the daylight hours with maybe 2 or 3 panels to offset some of the energy. Mostly the savings would be in the delivery charges than the actual energy costs.

Nicaragua was talking about net metering.
    Did that go anywhere?

Be handy to have a grid source for night and rain time.

Some people in Granada stated smart meters were installed - And a bit in La prensa mentioned (March I think) that they were going to also cap subsidies on daytime use, not just monthly..

    Like his battery chainsaw.
Turns out there are quite a few out there

I stumbled across a tool I have been looking for,, a chain saw disk. I had been looking for something to notch reglas to fit over the turned edge of a perlin. The screw the other into the next perlin, and repeat.

I'm looking for something to support a drywall ceiling.

It may turn out simpler to just weld in more perlines, but i wanted to try this .

    Nicaragua is,,
You don't always get what you wanted, but you get what you need
    If you work at it.
