    Default Welcome Rain

We got .27 inch last night.

I woke up to a green lawn, clean air, and a sweet smell.

It has been warm,, especially in the afternoons. We have several fires burning,, not close, but putting smoke in the air.

This seemed to be some storm that blew through. Probably 99.9 % of our weather comes in from the NE. There is a steady breeze most of the time.

I've decided to bow to the inevitable and get a small wind generator. Not to provide a significant amount of power but to maintain the battery charge overnight.

The idea is,, if I don't discharge the batteries, their life is significantly extended.

I dread the thought of inventing the wheel on this. I've settled on a multi bladed turbine for two reasons. I don't need a lot of power, but want what I can get st low wind speeds. The multi bladed turbines become inefficient at higher wind speeds, where the serious power is generated, because the blades don't get fresh air. This limits the speed, and provides some protection when I'm not here.
Five, seven, nine and eleven blade configurations are available.

If you think of the old Aeromotor windmills of yore, with their many blades, turning slowly. That is what I want.

Controlling and harvesting the power of a wind generator is completely different than solar. As Hamlet says,,
    "....aye, there's the rub . . "

But, if I keep it small,, just what I need overnight, it should be manageable.

Looking forward to the rain also. Cleared a few acres and they are waiting for the rain to start planting.

Have you looked at the vertical wind generators? I think they do well in low wind also. Be interesting to see how the maintenance on one is.

Yeah....turns out these are made in the Ferrari factory and they co-share a wind generating / testing facility.
Sure beats having it made in a third world country like say.....the one north of the US?
