    Among the 16 development projects that have(?) funding (total $0.98 billion) and begin this year is a 3-yr (2-yr?) plan to install solar panels on Corn Island capable of generating 2.1MW and a matching system (batteries?) to store that energy at a cost of $4.3M covered by BID.

    The big projects include modernizing the port of Corinto, a major expansion of the electrical grid, a clean-up of Lake Managua, and a hydraulic concrete road in the jungle of RAAN.

    Those that don't have funding yet most interest me:
    * A coastal highway from CR to the Gulf of Fonseco ($0.66B)
    * A beltway around Managua ($102M)
    * A train to serve Managua-Masaya-Granada ($180M)
    * To establish a Nica airline to MIA, SJO, & Havana, of course
    * To build a container shipping facility in Bluefields ($330M, 4 yr, begin 2021)
    * Potable water for Managua-Granada via lake Nicaragua ($0.85B, 6 yr, begin 2020)
    * Various mass transport systems, including modern bus stations
    * Several hydroelectric & geothermal projects

    And the spenders' list goes on. Dream on, Nicaragua!

    Yea - With the current situation I do not see financing actually happening...

    But nice plans...

    All sort of proposals transit like a Managua/Masaya/Granada LRT - An elivated bus system for Managua - New port at Corinto - A new peir out to the pacific so tour ships need not have people get into the transport boats to get to shore...

    Equally brazen as unrealistic..

    Didn't there used to be a train that ran from Granada to Managua? I think Danny tore it up and sent the tracks to Cuba in a show of solidarity.

    Violetta did and sold it for scrap within a year of defeating Danny boy.

    Remnants of the tracks (Grade and a station) exist in Masaya - There is an old rail tunnel between Masaya and Granada as well.

    Yes, Chamorro sold the railroad in 1990 to help cover some of the civil war debts, as advised by the top neocons 'helping' the recovery. People in Leon are still upset about it. The station there is a preserved landmark and a working (pre-GPS) reference point for addresses in the vicinity.

    Is the canal officially dead now? I didn't see it on the list.

    I still believe that the canal was planned as the scam of the century,, would have made every Orteguista in Nicaragua a very rich man.

    Corn Island solar sounds like the most immediately doable of all the listed projects.

    Sections of the PanAmericano are being repaired, and then chip sealed, North of Estelí.
    It's nice work.

    The corn Island solar is already built, Asians built it. Don't think it is operational yet but is all in place.
