Aunt Lulu and a bunch of her fat old friends are at serious risk in this deal, that is for damm skippy.

The US goat fucked the deal in my opinion, I worried about this about a month ago and stocked up on a bunch of stuff and my wife and my dad thought I was a dumbass panic monger. Haha on them.

In my opinion what should have happened week before last when the Tsunami was apparent, is that the US should have shut down wholesale for 10 days or so. Lock, stock, and barrel, except for health care, food supplies, and a few other necessities. Basically like a 10 day ice storm or Hurricane. Rip the fucking bandaid off the deal. Most of the south and midwest had the kids out on spring break anyway. Activate the national guard and get folks off the street, requisition hotels, set up field kitchens, etc. But give the public an end date or goal to get to.

This increasing escalation and uncertainty is going to devastate the United States. Gaining 10 days to line things out with an end date in sight at least would have maybe had the financial markets take a pause, and give businesses and employers something to plan towards. Right now nobody can figure out come here from sic'em. One county is locked down, the next one isn't. Leaving the panic mongers to run free on Wall Street has done nothing more than spook the piss out of folks.

Fuck China, in terms of the west they have always been able to be counted on to really fuck things up. This is no different.

    Damn right...

A month ago, I ordered a shit load of canned meats and veggies from Wal Mart and picked them up one night. Didn't even have to go into the store.

Came home with a trunk load of food and Maria thought I was nuts.

Boxed them up, labeled them and they are sitting on the shelf in the garage.

    Who is laughing now?

Hit the atm today, did super, farmacia, and gas station at same time. Wife came along to make sure I had my mask and gloves on. No problem, I let her go alone at fruit stand, farmacia.
Traffic light, fair number of people with masks. La Colonia has man who puts gel on your hands at front door, stores well stocked except for the panic items. Few customers, red lines on the floor to encourage you to maintain distance from others at checkstand.
Farmacia value and one other now located behind the cathedral, convenient to La Colonia.

Red China is a public health hazard. Too bad all the globalists in the US will let them get away with this. Airlines who made the big bucks in China while opposing Trump are in line for bailouts.

Trump certainly isn't letting China off the hook. Public science has become something of a sacred cow, and it's top scientists recite the dogma like high priests. Are we to hole-up for months (12-18) until a vaccine is made, proved clinically valid, manufactured and distributed?

Pat Buchanan has an interesting perspective on this situation, aligned with Trump's attitude that the cure shouldn't be worse than the disease. His final thoughts in his blog post today are worth sharing, https://buchanan.org/blog/
Reports of folks in this heavily armed nation stocking up on guns and ammunition suggest a widespread apprehension of what may be coming. If the medical crisis is allowed to induce an economic crisis that leads to a social crisis, the American political system, our democratic system, may itself be severely tested.

Lest we forget: In the greatest crisis in this nation’s history, in which the issue was whether the American Union would be severed into two nations, Abraham Lincoln suspended the right of habeas corpus, shut down state legislatures, closed newspapers, jailed journalists and was prepared to arrest the chief justice. And for the dictatorial measures he took, and for waging the bloodiest war in U.S. history, against fellow Americans, Lincoln is now regarded by many as our greatest president.
Nicaragua's bass-ackward approach to this global pandemic is beginning to seem wiser & wiser. Most Nicas (95+%) are under 65. The virus will spread, because no actions anywhere are truly hermetic. Healthy oldster face good odds of survival. And once most people have their own antibodies, it's back to normal.

Tempting indeed to suspend Habeas Corpus long enough to throw Jim Acosta in some dungeon. I doubt that it will be necessary.

The numbers are finally starting to gel: Everyone gets it, 80% recover a they would from Influenza, 15% are hospitalized, 5% critical needing extreme support, such as ventilators. 2% finally die.

This speaks to a scenario where sufficient resources are available to address the problem. Sufficient ventilators for that critical 5% or more. Enough hospital beds to meet the demand. Harden nursing homes and lock them down.

Once we have the resources in place, how about just isolating those most at risk ? This is a population that does not work for the most part. We're looking at 20%. This is a very contagious virus, and it would take little time to pass through the population. Within 30 days an increasing part of the population would be immune. Eventually, the virus would be out of hosts, and would begin to die out -----at least here.

If we can just keep the Dems from donating all those new ventilators to Africa,, then we will be prepared for the second, and possible third waves of infection. Possible deadlier, those succeeding waves, as in the 1918 Spanish flu,, but it wouldn't matter since we have herd immunity, and all the ventilators we could possibly use.

It would seem easier to isolate Aunt Lulu, than what we are unsuccessfully attempting now.

If the antiMalarial/antiBiotic solution helps,, so much the better.

We could be open for business end of April

One problem with the "let them all get" it is that viruses tend to mutate. Dengue has 4 strains and I never heard of what happened to the "el rash" I had a few years ago.

Stats from the US are that half of those hospitalized are not old. If they get care they survive, if the medical system implodes they might not.

Sometimes I think people's strengths become their weaknesses. I suspect that in the first few weeks when Trump was listening to the biologists the cogs in the back of his head were whirling to the tune of "this is going to f*** the economy bigtime". His high card is economics, not biology. The US is several weeks behind the curve and will pay dearly.

Democracy was running out of gas in the US anyway. 1 or 2 more elections and it is over , the Dems will be the next PRI. Our only saving grace is the career office holders are fighting among themselves. What scares me is if Michelle throughs in her hat at the Dem convention--landslide 55/45 win. Romney is waiting in the wings to purge the Repubs of Trumpsters.

Trump is pushing for Easter. Passover ends the evening of April 16 - we should at least wait until then so that this plague can ceremoniously be said to have passed us over, esp. if there are signs that the curve is flattening. It seems all of the media and the entire scientific community is against him. This is worse than claiming human CO2 production is a much smaller factor in global warming than models indicate (an ex-communicable sacrilege). Is he boss enough to pull it off? A lot can happen in 3 weeks. To truly contain any further bloom as Americans leave their homes to work, totalitarian-like surveillance is called for. It’s not like the US (corporations) aren’t neck & neck with the Chinese in that area. So it can be done. Once carriers are ID’d they must be isolated. The weakest, most susceptible of the non-productive lot should stay in their homes until it’s safe.

I say let it mutate. This isn’t 1918. Yes, we were well behind the curve on Covid-19, but not for much longer. If a new strain of Covid pops up anywhere, doctors & labs around the world will jump on it, and we’ll soon be on top of it.

Yes, we could rent whole, ‘sanitized’ islands for 3-6 months or until it’s OK to return to the mainland - Caribbean, Aleutian chain, South Pacific, (US coastal), Falklands(?). Test all natives first, offer top pay to serve the oldsters, total isolation, fly in food, booze & supplies. Tether satellite dish blimps centrally for internet & porno channels. One thing for sure about the medical community, they are not one monolithic groupthink. Plenty of disagreement among them, about everything.

    Headline in today's WashPost,
"Live from his basement, Joe Biden pushes for visibility as Democrats worry"

Trump could easily milk this thru to November.

I think we'd have to go back several decades of American history to learn at what point 'democracy' ran empty and buying elections, representatives, Senators and entire political apparati became normal. In fact I'm not sure 'democracy' ever included the rabble voting. For the Greeks and early American aristocrats that meant slaves, women & serfs that didn't own land, the majority of the population couldn't vote. Today they do what they're told to. It gives the illusion of 'democracy'.

Quarantine New York City -and let the rest of the country get back to business.

Let DeBlasio ,, Fredo's brother and AOK find their own solutions. We have better things to do.

"Trump could easily milk this thru to November."

Maybe, but I don't think so. How many months of that $800 /mo unemployment?
I remember four. So,, August, with just enough time for the economy to roar back in time for November.

Yes, seal off the festering canker. Only one-eyed Snake Plisken could get in and get out and now he's over 65, so yes, make Manhattan into an East coast Alcatraz. All offices & apts to be made into IC rooms by martial law. Further, require that all US med students intern there for a month (more?) in order to get an M.D.

best information is that this is a 4 month cycle from "no known cases" to "no new cases". city by city, etc, expect 4 months of hell. Hope experimental meds work, but they will probably be treatments, not cures. Hope vaccine comes up soon, but that is still a case of months.

What amazes me is that the US military seems to have no preps-- biohazard field hospitals that could be set up within 48 hours anywhere. Just imagine if some country would unleash a fast-killing germ on purpose. We'd be dead before we could even pray to the Easter Bunny.

I am not so convinced - You can legislate Canadians, Brits and the Dutch and the Germans to all shut down and go inside and wait, which we did

The US - I am thinking No - Even if Trump bellowed to his base to get home from work and shutter the doors they would have ignored him. As I understand it only California, NY and MI are shuttered - Everywhere is pretty much business as usual

Not true. Many, many businesses are closed or on limited hours here in Florida. Many people sent home to wait it out.

Public health in the US is mainly a city/county/state thing. Where the current situation is not bad they might have a chance to control it with testing , individual quarantine, and minor restrictions like take out only at restaurants and let people work. Taiwan did it in a country of 25 million people.
In areas spinning out of control, right now NY and New Orleans, no choice but to shut them down and not for 2 weeks. Wuflu has a 4 month cycle.
Trump is stalling until the state and local forces get a plan. Fauci finds Trump's stalling embarrassing, but what is he going to do?
Hospital ship in L.A. is playing it smart-- they are taking the regular patients and leaving the wuflu patients in the city hospitals.

Eagle shit today so I hit the atm likely to be least crowded. Mall almost had more guards than customers, guards all had masks. Wife made deposit at bank and paid some bills. Man in front of her took off his mask to cough. Teller chewed his ass out. Gunna be a long 6 months.

You tube full of how to make good use of your quarantine tapes.
