    Incredibly impressive,, if true.

So, only 30% of Nicaragua's power came from oil in September ?

Which begs question two: Why is electricity in Nicaragua so expensive ?

When they passed 50% it was clear the numbers were fudged - There is a web based dash board that shows instantaneous use and breaks it down to thermal, bunker, solar and wind. At that time it was still over 70% bunker when they were touting 50% renewables.

Have lost the link though - Still looking for it.

That's for the first 15 days of Sept. Market price fluctuations may have pushed them to shift source loads.

Here's a snapshot of the energy sources feeding the Nicaraguan grid this morning:
    http://www.cndc.org.ni/graficos/graf...Tipo_TReal.php
    9AM: 37.2% bunker oil, 63% renewable (24.5% geothermal, 23.3% hydroelectric, ...)
    10AM: 46% bunker, 54% renewables

Huge loans (IDB &c.) allowed Nicaragua to tap its renewable sources; payback with interest keeps the prices up.

I suspect the price here per kWh is similar to what I pay stateside. International markets.

This chart's a puzzle. As tho the grey imported source is "renewable". from http://www.mem.gob.ni/

Could it be renewable energy imported from CR or HO?

I bet a lot of this is two pointed..

    1) Nicaragua does not have much (of high value) to trade for hard US greenbacks.

    2) DOS and Rosario could see how Maduro could not maintain bunker production for themselves, let alone the Bolivar alliance.

So now DOS can sell wind and Geo therm at a premium into the CA-4 grid and take what ever Maduro can ship for general consumption...

A match for the 10AM data - the demand during business hours. Just seeing that 9AM was so different must cause us to question how Nicaragua shifts its energy sources during 6PM to 7AM time period when most working stiffs get a break. And thus the overall distribution of sources looks more "rosy".

Personally I think they ought to max out on Venezuelan bunker while the getting's good. Although it's certainly good practice being able to switch from source to source.

Are they still getting oil from Venezuela?

Nope, it would seem not. Managua still has the huge likeness of Hugo Chavez in the circle by Plaza Inter, so I assumed . . . perpetuity . . . But Venezuela is more of a hole in South America than I'd thought.

Although the law probably is not set in stone yet, registering money to expats and family is not part of the plan >>>>> yet.

In the run up to the 2021 election, it's understandable that Ortega would want to avoid an influx of USAID money that will support the opposition (if any viable opposition eventually develops).

That one is far less likely - Too many Sandies own clothes salons, nail salons, small discretionary income spending places that live on that found money that percolates south ..

DOS and Rosario needs to keep those open with fresh money from the north and EU to keep his mid 30% of FSLN faithful happy.
