Default Notice that things are not the same...

This drifted by this AM where it hit me that Niclandia is not the same place...

Tuna Salad with Kale... It is just missing quinoa (I have no Idea what that is, other than it is post Kale)

What was the old joke about the United States? Something like the land that passed from barbarism to decadence without first going through the stage of civilization?

I have noticed that some Nica women are very tasteful in how they decorated their homes. It looks like something out of a fashion magazine, a huge jump from dirt floors, etc. Some of the cooking is catching up, it is not all about fried starch and sugar water. My wife's specialty is somehow lazanya. Hell, I can't even spell lazanya.

    That must be in SJDS.

I think Quinoa predated Kale as a fad, not positive about that.

Oh man, fried starch and sugar water - that is Comida Nica in a nutshell.

Fyl was a huge quinoa fan. Probably kale too.
I used to eat it, like rice, but takes a LOT longer to cook.

    Now I just eat rice.

if you are not a vegetarian your options are better in terms of getting the nutrition you need.
Fyl's wife (or probably ex now,, I didn't see her in Guatemala when I visited him) was Seventh Day Adventist. There are quite a few of them in Estelí.

Well I have known Kale forever as it is a Dutch staple Boerenkool Stamppot (Mashed Potatoes with Kale and Sausage)

Mashed Potatoes, Kale, a S#it load of butter and a greasy sausage thrown in the center - I still make it at home from time to time when Polish sausage is on sale.

This is not trendy health food...

Ah, Polish sausage! Can't wait to get back and eat at Costco.
Now, don't tell me Costco's sausage is not authentic Polish....

    That's the stuff!
Went to Chicago once. The post office had signs in Polish. In my naive youth I wondered what kind of weird Mexicans might be these Polish.

They eliminated the picnic tables. You can't eat in the store now. Well, you can; just standing up or walking out the door.

The beef hot dogs are ok, but they leave me feeling bloated. I don't think I tried the Polish sausages, though.

Speaking of weird, traffic here is crazy. Bumper to bumper, arrogant, stupid, all for a place where everyone is supposed to be broke but they sure are driving around a lot. and long lines at the banks Fridays, Saturdays, and Mondays. Can't be xmas chopping yet, unless remittances are coming in early.

New store at the mall. Peepul said it was like pricemart. Not really, more like a bad version of Dollar store and no sneeze guards.
