    The summary of 2022 remittances put the increase at 50.2% YoY

    The bit on EL19 did not actually state the 2022 numbers for remittance as a portion of GDP, but if the 17% in 2021 was correct this means that almost 1 in 4 dollars of GDP in now remittance based.

    The nice part of it,, at least so far,, is the money reaches the recipient without anything taken off the top.

    The WU agents make out like bandits,,
    as they claim that the recipient has to take half in Cordobas,, as they don't have enough dollars.
    Typically they will offer half in dollars and half in Cordobas

    Then,, they make more on converting the dollars to Cordobas than they make on the money transfer.
    The exchange rate they offer is not horrible,, just not the best,, and they pocket a Cordoba for every dollar exchanged.

    The migrants who were making the journey mojado didn't have the necessary documents to receive WU in Mexico.
    But there was always someone who would receive the transfer for a piece.


    An awful lot of people must have lost a great living when the migrants quit coming overland.
