    Default Education for Islanders

The following was recently posted on Marlies Corn Island / Yahoo site. You might consider how a little donation could provide a years tuition for some kid.

Hi there, the courses here at BICU are not expensive at all, I can take the freedom of saying that we are one of the most accesible and cheapest university in the entire Nicaragua, the mision of the university is putting education to the reach of everyone.

We offer here the following at the Campus In Bluefields:
    Bussines Administration
    Public Acountant
    Hotel & Tourism Administration
    Marine Biology
    Ecology
    Laws
    System Engineering
    Civil Construction

the cost of each semester is of 375 cordobas (some $ 20 Dolars), so you will pay for the year 40 Dollars, the only excetion to this is Civil Construction & System Engeneering, these pay an extra $ 20 a month due to the use of labs, computers, and other means that needs of constant maintenance.
the posibility of getting a scholarship is very high here at the univ, if your nephew have good grades or do any sports or sme type of cultural activity(singing, writes poems, dance etc.)

any other info you need just write me,

The real cost is for lodging/boarding. I have heard horror stories of kids being sent to Bluefields... more so for primary education, and ending up as indentured servants for family members or strangers in exchange for board.

My wife is studying Hoteleria and Administracion de Tourismo, at UPOLI and its running for full time school, U$50 a month. So at the rate they are charging thats a pretty good deal.
