    Default Tony Robins

Tony Robins (aka Jinoturistica, the "Sage"); 01/04/1940 - 19/03/2008. Love him or hate him, he spoke his mind. May he rest in peace.

Known on TRN as both "Brit" and "Jinoturistica", Tony X. Robins was called The Sage of Jinotega by us on TRN for the wisdom he unashamedly shared regardless of whether anyone agreed with him. He was also the man who coined the phrase, "The Real Nicaragua" for which this site is named.

He was a Major in Britain's Royal Army, emigrated to the US and lived in Texas before moving to Jinotega. At some point in life he became a Quaker.

    Nos vemos, Tony.

Well, for a while, when i was still visiting and posting on the other side, he and i minced words and crossed swords more than once. i may have even been a bit intolerant of his liberal attitudes and uncel sam bashing (at least that's how i saw it.

anyway, i never met him or spoke to him, although last summer i considered driving up to surprise him and duke it out in person!

i am, though, strangely saddened by his passing. (maybe i am a sap after all.)

Be well and although i think you may have been an atheist or agnostic or maybe just antagonistic, go with your god.

It is sad to lose another friend from the site.

    Adios Tony

I motion that this tribute to The Sage be moved into the "Site Dedication" category given Tony's involvement with coining "The Real Nicaragua."

    RIP, Tony

    Default Remembering Tony

I too will miss Tony's posts even though we usually, but not always, completely disagreed with one another on politics. Nonetheless, Tony often had very useful advice for those coming to Nicaragua, and his Web site is really useful. I had really hoped to meet him in Jinotega some day and enjoy a few beers together. Tony, rest in peace.

I think the equivalent of an obituary page (forum) would be useful for TRN.

I hope it won't be needed often. A birth and wedding page would offset it.

Unfortunately there are (I think) more of us old folks retiring to Nicaragua than young expats living there (full or part-time) , but a weddings and births (hopefully in that order) page would definitely pleasantly offset the morbid side of only an obituary page.

I second the motion for a rememberance page. You all know that i am still new here and haven't met any of you yet (though somehow i think JPJW will be the first!). but despite the differences, there is a comaraderie here that should continue even after one passes.

to quote a line from perhpas my favorite movie of all time, "We all gotta go sometime, Red."

A bottle of gran reserva to the first who names the movie!

Was it Moe of the three stooges in spanish? I have no idea...But what is it with this comaraderie thing? is it the nacatamales, something they put in the Gallo Pinto? I guess it is a state of mind that we all have in common, a little area in the grey matter that many others don´t have.

Dam! I quoted my own quote wrong!!!

It's supposed to be "We all gotta die sometime, Red."

Probably the Nacatamales...they must do something to our Yankee brains!

It's not from Shawshank, is it? That's sort of the official favorite movie of TRN.

OK, I admit it. I cheated to find out where it came from. Does this disqualify me fom the gran reserva? I have to admit that I have never seen this movie. Maybe I should try to rent it this weekend.

Default Although it is a GREAT movie ....

The all time best movie is "Paint Your Wagon" with Lee Marvin and Clint Eastwood. It's a comedy about California, Gold, Whores, Love, Morals, Gambling, and Whiskey and it is a musical in which both guys sing ...OK not the best part, but so does Harv Presnel and he IS good.

I think we need a poll for best movie and a 10 page debate!
