We all need to work on our Spanish if we're going to go to Nicaragua. Maybe not so much the DAC, but it can't hurt over there.

This forum is a place to learn Spanish. I don't know how it's going to work yet, but I'm hoping Cathy will help out. Maybe we'll take a news item and translate it, or answer questions on Spanish vs. English. It'll evolve over time and hopefully be useful and educational.

Thanks go to Jack McG for suggesting this forum.

One thing I'll do is pick one day a week to set the whole forum in Spanish. Then all the software text will be in Spanish but the content remains in English. Root hog or die! Let's see, what day would be good for this...

    Default I'm in

I usually get paid a pretty penny (actually euros) to translate, but I'll put in my €0.02.
I hope you guys don't mind a bunch of Mexicanismos mixed in, cuz you're gonna get 'em!

Anyone is welcome to participate. I mentioned Felix and Cathy because they've volunteered for this since the beginning. Now we've got more.

Friday shall be Espanol day, for the default language of this site. Write posts in English as always, but you'll see all the vBulletin software text in Spanish.

(Now I have to remember to change the setting late Thursday night...)

It won't translate user-input. Only software written text.

Dude, seriously. You gotta get the Larousse Spanish English Dictionary. I carried that thing around with me everywhere for about 10 years. I still have it, though the back cover has fallen off.

I must have if you're learning Spanish.

btw, the "hard way" would be to take a class!

    Default You guys

just won't pay attention, now, will ya? How many times have I mentioned a perfectly FANTASTIC, online, and free site: www.wordreference.com. Sure, it's not gonna translate whole sentences or anything, but c'mon now - most of you should by now have figured out the little words by now . Oh, and I'll be more than happy to translate for those of you who've tried and can't get anywhere !

John, thanks for the clarification as to the Friday language. When I logged in, I thought my 'puter was losing it!!

You can also buy a pocket-size electronic translator pretty cheap. I've gone through two of them, now I use online sources when I'm at my computer.
