There has been a growing concern in the past weeks of the insecurity within the Capital. Particularly there has been several armed assaults on taxi passengers in the past few days. The sub director of the National police believes that the numbers are not alarming, and that Nicaragua remains one of the safest places in Central America. He believes that there may be an increase of crime with the coming election, so they will begin several security plans throughout the city, including special forces and other Police brigades.

Several victims in the past few days have reported being held captive for several hours in taxis.
