Nicaragua is no longer "Un país con corazón" (A country with Heart), a slogan that lasted only 3 years and cost U$100,000 dollars. The new slogan is "Única... Original" with a touch of those psychedelic colors of Roasrio Murillo.
They claim the reason for the change was because the original slogan was only promoting the churches, the water, and the volcanoes, mostly only reflecting the Pacific Coast and not the Atlantic Coast and the Rio San Juan. INTUR also claims that the original slogan did not stick in the minds of tourists, however no study to prove this was done. They did however spend an additional U$100,000 dollars to come up with this new slogan.
Some of the reasoning behind the fonts and the colors of the new slogan are as follows:
The Color Magenta (Fucsia) is a representation of the indigenous people which use this color and also because everything in Nicaragua is colorful, the artists, the typical dress
The Celestial Blue represents the water
The Green represents Nature, and the volcanoes
The Yellow, because Nicaragua always has Sun
The Courier font, because this is the common font used in a type writer and there are a lot of writers in Nicaragua
The flower is to show that Nicaragua is a hospitable country
The reason for the wording "Unica, Original" is because they were imitating countries like Cuba and Mexico who do not change their slogan to sell, and because when you translate it, it means the same thing, it is a fast way of identifying the country rather than "Un país con corazón".
