La Mocuana: This is a Very Tall Lady, ugly looking, that occording to witnesses, was about 7 feet tall with long dress, it is said that if you ever saw this lady you would become mentally ill.
The home of this Urban Legend it's said to be in the Mountains of La Trinidad, her home is known as La Cueva De La Mocuana, Interresting enough, you should be able to see this big, cave(Cueva) on the East Side of the Pan Am high way on one of the hills, when you enter the Town of La Trinidad.
La Llorona: (The crying Lady)This legend was a Lady, that would be heard crying on the River banks.
The story is that, her only son drowned and was never found, so she would look for him every night on the river banks, with a lamenting cry.
La Carreta Nagua: This Legend, is said to appear in Holy week(Semana Santa) it consist of a 2 oxes with a carriage, full of bones, no One is riding the carriage thou, the oxes herd themselves.
El Jinete Sin Cabeza: (The headless Rider) This one is a Legend that also came out in holy week, this one is supposed to be a Headless rider, riding the devil's horse, if you were to see him, you would become Mute. I actually heard this horse running through our streets one year, after midnight, I was scared stiff. lol.
El Cadejo Negro: This is supposed to be a tiny lil dog, that is supposed to be the devil's dog,if you were a bad boy, he would enchant you and take you away, and you would never be seen again.
El Cadejo Blanco: This one was a Good Cadejo, he was supposed to protect you from the Devil's Cadejo, in case the Bad Cadejo was trying to take your soul, and you were a good kid.
El Duende: (leprecons) This Legend occurs in other countries as well, They would enchant young girls and steal them.
El Diablo: (The devil himself) This Legend, is said to take place in all the Coffee plantations in Nicaragua, during the harvest season where there could be hundreds of people picking the coffee beans, The owners of the Coffee Fincas, would sell their souls to the devil, and the devil himself would come down at night and take a person's souls, and in some cases the people would be transformed into cattle.
El Diablo anda Suelto: This Legend says, that starting Ash wednesday, until Easter Sunday, God lets the devil loose, to claim any bad behaving Nicaraguans.( I think this one was aimed at making sure, you did not drink too much FDC During Semana Santa.
Most of these Urban legends are told to kids, so they would be afraid of being out late at night, and to behave with their parents.
You would be surprised how people in small farm towns, believe in these Urban Legends, since after all, it has been a part of their Culture.
Enjoy
