Default new travlers to Nicaragua seeks advice

Hello all.. I will be landing in Managua 1-21-09 at 9:02 pm with my friend Patty. We will be here till 2-8-09 as we fly out at 7:30 am .. so 16 days free to see the sites ... other than approx 3 days (no firm time yet to be in CR) to visit an acquaintance in Costa Rica we have no firm plans .. I've found this site helpful but now .. information overload .. We have a few major objectives in the trip .. see the country/culture/people ... begin to evaluate from being here (vs reading / viewing on the internet) opportunities in living here either as a winter home or possibly year round .. meet other who have settled here and again discuss and see here vs just reading about it ... My initial desire in living here would be to have a rural setting and land with accessibility to cities. .. I'm 52 retired as an entrepreneur and mainly worked in real estate brokerage, general contractor, rental homes, development etc .. I am not interested in living in a community of Americans isolated from the general population .. my Spanish is poor, but Patty is fairly fluent. Although I enjoy the beach for a visit I'm not inclined to live there, .. I'd much rather be in a partially wooded, rural area with a year round stream of some sort. .. I'd expect this to be the 1st of 3 to 4 trips to make contacts and get a real feel for the area .. I'm thinking that a good start is to get out of Managua asap and then work my way down toward Costa Rica, visit in Costa Rica a few days and then possible come back north along the east side of lake Nicaragua ... I'm hoping any of you that live in the area and would like to meet and share your experiences and possible show us around your Nicaragua area would let us know and we can try and do that .. also as yet I have no room or transportation .. We are both fit and healthy and a lot of fun .. Patty is 50 an Atty and sings and plays guitar, get a few drinks in her and she does a great Janis Joplin along with many other great songs ... we are wanting an adventure and planing on roughing it to a degree .. traveling with backpacks and that's it ..We hope to get some invites and recommendations and start new friendships .. thanks in advance for any help . .. email direct is bizman49@hotmail.com .. Yahoo IM for instant messenger or video chat (no email on Yahoo) is mrbizm@yahoo.com
I'm ready to get out of Northern Ohio last week has seen multiple days of minus 5 to minus 15 .. THANKS AGAIN!!

Steve and Patty, let me say welcome to TRN and your willing ness to make changes in your life is envious of many in OUR country.....

This place in the first place is not only remote but the people in the countrysides can be more than helpfull.....

If you are fimiliar with how rednecks treat people in the rual areas of the US and know how to conduct yourselves, (ain not putting on airs etc) You will blend with the local and not so local populace.....

Getting out of MGA is a plus, it is an innercity situation and the pits unless you need to do some shopping there.

I live on the DAC (affectionaly Known as the Dangerious Atlantic Coast) ...It is not really......

once again Welcome to this forum, and I am sure others will answewr your post.......
To be called a "Has Been" I must surmise, is much Greater than to be called a "Nevah Been"... JW...
