Yeah I think I would jump over, I don't think I would want to be caught up on that ship when its going down.

As a ship builder of 30 years and someone that knows the business, I have not felt safe about those ferries under even ideal conditions.

What an abortion, it might look like a boat if they got rid of the top two floors. Looks like it could roll over in the harbor going to the fuel dock.

In the US the US Coast Guard has to review the engineering and construction of a vessel and the rules for passenger vessels are strict. They have periodic inspections as well, and most additions to the regulations have to be incorporated during routine maintenance. So after all of these years I have gotten to the point that I look at a vessel and in minutes I can determine it's safety. Bobby from the other site had shown photos of these ferries and I did comment, but had to bite my tongue. A lot of the regulations that I follow in the USA are excessive, and for a rich country it is okay. When you try to apply those regulations to another county it is intrusive. Maybe some day I can work down there in some sort of consultant basis and try to help them make their boats safer on a shoe string. I believe the loading of this vessel is not responsible given the conditions. If you combine that with cheap construction methods you have a recipe for disaster.

We took the smaller Omtepe ferry over and the bigger one back. The smaller one was bobbing like this one, the whole 1.5 hour trip.. Both my boys threw up on the way over.

The larger one was smooth on the way back. I deduced that 3 of them were being used and this picture must be of one of the 3 larger ones.

BTW.. The Guy at the wheel of the smaller one said the smaller ferry was 100 yrs old.. This may not be true though as I thinking 100yrs is the 4th of 5 units of time measure in Nica, being 5 min, tomorrow, next year, 10 years ago and 100years ago..

The ferry might be submersible the way it passed under the bridge, but I don't think the vehicles faired so well.

Remind me never to ride that thing. I'll get on board most any vessel, as long as it's operated by someone with a conscience...

That photo reminds me of a 1/2 Ton Pickup Truck leaving Home Depot with as many bags of concrete that they can fit into the bed of the truck.
