Giant Tarpon Fishing, Rio San Juan, Nicaragua.
1) Rio San Juan Satellite PAT-Tags to Study Migratory Patterns, Spawning Areas and Habitat Preferences of Atlantic Tarpon
In January this year we made the first Sat Tag Program ever in Rio San Juan for our Giant Tarpon. This operation has been a collaboration between Miami University, Rosenstiel school of Marine & Atmospheric science... Tarpon Tomorrow Foundation, La Esquina del Lago, San Carlos Sportfishing, Marena ( Ministerio del ambiente Nicaragua ), Inpesca ( Ministerio de la Pesca in Nicaragua ) Tarpon has been tag and are now trace by Satellite...Results are expected for coming July when tag will be release by order though the Satellite...We will be able to trace movement of the Tarpon during five months every two second.... as it has been done in the past in Texas, and Florida...
Amazing to see than a tarpon can move some 2000km in two months!!!! Than he move acording to water Temperature...Where he feed...etc
Rio San Juan Giant Tarpon are a mystery...Why do they comes here in fresh water at 150 miles from sea? Do theystay here? How Long? Where do they go? ....
. No doubt than this study will give us scientific datas than will be useful in order to protect our Unique Fishery...
Anyone who wish to learn upon Tarpon is welcome to be in touch directly with the scientist of the Program ...
Contact are Jerald S. Ault, Jiangang Luo, Scott Alford at E mail jluo@rsmas.miami.edu
Also I am currently building a new section on my web page where a lot of scientific information upon Tarpon will be available.

2) For the first time this year I decided to make a green Season , between the 15 st of April till the 1st of September there will be a 15 % Discount on rate of my all Include Package. http://www.nicaraguafishing.com/Prix.htm Reason I do that is than in these month we have the same quality in Fishing ... and as usual we have the river for us.... and very few Guests...because people do not know ...We fish in ideal condition .. Far from being the spring and Summer crowd as in Florida or Texas... So I wish to promote this time of the year... Anglers are welcome but also Family as apart from fishing there is also a lot to do and enjoy at and from Lodge. . Birdwatching, Kayaking., Jungle river Tours , wild life, History, arts...
Remember the 6 pages Article in FIELDS & STREAMS Magazine Bill Heavey said as a title ... Alone in Tarpon Paradise... The civil war is over in Nicaragua tarpon unfished for 30 years are Hungry and no one knows... http://www.marine-electronics.net/tropicalfishing/FAS.htm

3) An European Team is currently filming a Video upon our Operation on Rio San Juan...

5) New San Carlos Airport is open. Authority made a very good Job a very nice Run way...Also Improvement to building. There are now two flight a day from Managua with COSTENA AIRLINE... a scenic flight 45 minutes over the great Lake, Omotepe Volcanoes, Solentiname Archipelago...
Managua is 2.30 hours from Miami...3 Hours from Houston... 4 Hours from Atlanta... 5 Hours from California... So we have now easy and safe access for visitors

6) San carlos town is changing a lot... 14.7 Milions $ are invested in order to improve the city...( Program name is LA RUTA DEL AGUA ) new water front, new Deck. new Immigration Building etc...etc..So we are going on We recently open a Restaurant/Art Galery in town Name is EL GUEGUENSE...Every body in town know the place... It is also the Lodge office in town. a meeting point for Angler....

7) Just a word upon a comment made by almost all my visitors...Why no Mosquitoes there? Strange but it's a fact we are surounded by fresh water ...in a Tropical area.. and there are only very very few mosquitoes on Rio San Juan... for us and my Guests this is a major plus.

As usual your comments, suggestion are more than Welcome...Please be in Touch by E mail at riosanjuan@racsa.co.cr
