    Default Sergio Zepeda, Guitar maker

    http://guitarraszepeda.com/index.php...cc509a6f75849b

This is the guy who showed Andrew Zimmern around Masaya. Guitarras Zepedas, 200 meters east of Union Fenosa, Masaya. 883-0260 guirarraszepeda@yahoo.com

My wife says I should not buy a guitar because I haven't played in years (therefore will never play again), but I still would like to buy one of Sergio's one day.

I bought one from the shop next door, Pilarte. The guitar maker there worked with Zepeda for decades before starting his own.

For the money, I think it's a much better guitar. The $250 guitar at Zepeda was $120 at Pilarte. The $500 guitars were great at both, but I'm not that good.

I've heard of Pilarte, too. I'd have to check them out. Are you a player, Doc? [no not that kind, get your mind outta the gutter]

Never was that other kind. Too nerdy, though I'm certainly good-looking enough to pull it off. It's a shame I can't walk across a room without tripping over something.

Pilarte is literally right next door to Zepeda. I spent several hours checking out both and settled on Pilarte. I always root for the underdog and the products were virtually indistinguishable in sound and construction (though the price was much lower at Pilarte).

I do play. I was playing 5 minutes ago (trying to get that friggin' chord progression for Black Hole Sun ). Strictly acoustic. Many Kumbaya moments here at the house. I also play piano, but it's easier to take a guitar on a plane, so I have no piano.

You can take an electronic keyboard on a plane way easier, and not worry about the dry air warping the wood, or it getting smashed.

I played mostly electric, built a couple of them. Sold my Gibson 335 and Fender Telecaster. Pretty much stopped playing in about 1992, for no particular reason (maybe flying was taking over).

In my office, a late '60s Alvarez piece of crap classical guitar stares at me all day long. I'd love to learn flamenco, gypsy, and classical, but I'd want a good quality instrument.

I never found an electronic keyboard that sounded any better than my first POS Casio. They all sound like video games to me. There's a piano at Casa Blanca on the Calzada. I think I might just walk in there and start playing until they throw me out.

I'm hoping to find someone around here that teaches classical. I've been putting that off for too long. Flamenco and gypsy are pretty much classical with syncopation.

Got mine from Pilarte 4 years ago and it is hanging on the wall of our casita in Guanacaste. Was my 10 millionth time trying to learn and had a great teacher at only 150 pesos a month for 5 hours each week... I learned tons of chords but could never get my fingers to make music....I love music but the only thing I can play is the radio.... btw... Manuel, owner of the farmacia Rosario in Granada plays well and sings better and does concerts every once in a while at Tres Mundos. I had only known him a week or so and he offered to drive me to Mayasa to help me pick out a guitar. Great guy and still a good friend!

Greetings everyone, I'm new to the forum. Nica by birth but raised in the states. I came looking for a Luthier in Nicaragua since it will come out cheaper and the country has a reliable source of Cocobolo. It happens to be the best lumber, tonally and visually, for an acoustic guitar in my opinion. When you read the traveler's guide they give at the airport it mentions a guitar maker by the name of Sergio Zepeda. So, my mission was literally over the minute I stepped out of the airport. I visited mr. Zepeda and was surprised to see that he does not carry any stock of his "high quality" guitars. So I ordered one and decided to stay another two weeks for the guitar to be finished.

It took him much longer, he charged me a substantial shipping cost on top of the guitar's price, and when I received it.... well let's say it was as they say "All Show, No GO". I was very disappointed and wanted my money back but of course he's gonna say any little thing for him not to reimburse my money.

I heard of another luthier named Isidro Tapia living in Managua. This man use to work with the first Zepeda (Sergio's Grandfather) since 13 years of age. I'm working with him now since he actually makes his guitars, not like Sergio who has a pack of 13 year olds making his guitars.

I've seen unmarked guitars in the tourist market in Masaya that I wouldn't even use as decoration, let alone play. I wonder who made those?

dude, i like the classics.... stairway

    Theres a lady whos sure
    All that glitters is gold
And shes buying a stairway to heaven.
When she gets there she knows
If the stores are all closed
With a word she can get what she came for.
Ooh, ooh, and shes buying a stairway to heaven.

Theres a sign on the wall
But she wants to be sure
cause you know sometimes words have two meanings.
In a tree by the brook
    Theres a songbird who sings,
Sometimes all of our thoughts are misgiven.
    Ooh, it makes me wonder,
    Ooh, it makes me wonder.

    Theres a feeling I get
When I look to the west,
And my spirit is crying for leaving.
In my thoughts I have seen
Rings of smoke through the trees,
And the voices of those who standing looking.
    Ooh, it makes me wonder,
Ooh, it really makes me wonder.

    And its whispered that soon
If we all call the tune
Then the piper will lead us to reason.
And a new day will dawn
    For those who stand long
And the forests will echo with laughter.

If theres a bustle in your hedgerow
    Dont be alarmed now,
Its just a spring clean for the may queen.
Yes, there are two paths you can go by
    But in the long run
Theres still time to change the road youre on.
    And it makes me wonder.

Your head is humming and it wont go
    In case you dont know,
The pipers calling you to join him,
Dear lady, can you hear the wind blow,
    And did you know
Your stairway lies on the whispering wind.

And as we wind on down the road
Our shadows taller than our soul.
There walks a lady we all know
Who shines white light and wants to show
How evrything still turns to gold.
And if you listen very hard
The tune will come to you at last.
When all are one and one is all
To be a rock and not to roll.

You can get a serious beauty for $300 big ones. I've heard of the shop next door to Zepeda's making fine guitars for $200 but I've never visited his shop.

I bought one there and they were every bit as nice as Zepeda for a lot less.

He also had quite a few electro-acoustics available.
