Yes, much of Nicaragua's cultural heritage comes from Mexico.

    Nice butterfly on the violin...

We were at a wedding in Managua last Saturday and they had a pretty decent Mariachi. La Baby Doc and I were commenting that they didn't have any violins. It really isn't Mariachi without the violins.

They also had an accordion and played a lot of cumbias, so I guess it was only Mariachi in Spirit.

Anyone know the number of a good Mariachi (one with at least 2 violins)? We're planning a Mexican Independence Day carne asada for September 15 (you ring it in like the New Year at midnight) and we wanted to close it out with the traditional 3 hour marathon of tequila fueled Mariachi sing-along (revenge on my neighbors for all their loud music in the mornings).

Remember that the "True Mariachis" in origin and way of playing rancheras, are in Mexico, specially Plaza Garibaldi.
Mexican mariachis don't play cumbias, they will only play Rancheras y corridos,Nicaraguan mariachis will play billy jeans if you ask them to.

What you see/hear in Nicaragua are indeed mariachis but... Nicaraguan Mariachis, they are still Mariachis, just not Mexican style mariachis, after all, lets not forget that you are now in Nicaragua not Mexico wey!!

There are a couple of Mexican style mariachis in Esteli, el mariachi loco being one of them .

I'll see if I can get you a number or 2 bra.
