We are Children of the Corn

    WHEN: August 28-30, 2009
    WHERE: Matagalpa

The purpose of this fair is to rescue the roots, customs, culture, traditions and especially to help the local economy of Matagalpa, all based around Corn.

To name a few of the products and foods to be had at the fair and made from corn will be atol, yoltamal, nacatamal, pinolillo, chicha bruja, güirila, elotes asados, elotes cocidos, agualoja, pinol, pozol, rosquillas, perrerreque, and many others.

This fair and festival will not only be about the corn but about National and Local culture. INTUR will be holding a festival along with this that celebrates polkas, mazurcas and jamaquellos.

Along with this as usual there will be a beauty pageant featuring 13 young Matagalpin ladies. The event will take place in the Malecon of Matagalpa, along the Avenue next to Rio Grande

This year there is expected to be even more exhibitors than last year at the fair, about 150, coming in from other parts of Matagalpa and other regions of Nicaragua including Sébaco, San Ramón, San Dionisio, La Dalia, and Jinotega.

Visitors are invited to participate in all the activities including contests and games such as The fasted corn on the cob eater, the person that can eat the most corn and the palo lucio. Prizes will reach 4000 cordobas.

In Mexico, the new ruling party is called the PAN (bread). The most popular bumper sticker is "Somos hijos del maiz, no del PAN!"
