New Acer Aspire Laptop

I bought the Acer Aspire 5810tz-4657 today at Walmart for $498 before local taxes.

It has:
Intel Pentium processor SU27001
15.6 HD Monitor
3gb ram
320gb HD
Vista Home Premium
They seem to all come wireless ready nowdays
(3) USP Ports

I recently purchased a USB hub that extends (1) USB port to (5). It is on a little cord about 3 inches long and is pretty cheap (probably $20)

I had a Toshiba laptop that was pretty cheap that I gave to my daughter on Labor Day weekend so I needed to replace it. This is a pretty good laptop (so far) I am just starting to use it this instant. I will update this thread as I use it.

I originally went in to get the $298 notebook that has been at Walmart for awhile, but made the decision to get this instead at the spur of the moment. Although that other thing (cheap notebook) is really small and cute, I just could not let go of the fact that I may do more with it than web surf. I think this is a much better computer than the one I just gave away. I like the way the keys sound and bounce back. I seem to almost have enough room for my big hands to use the home row keys without hitting other functions like cap locks.

Like I say, I will fill you guys in as I go. I really like my screaming demon Acer I have for home, so I think I will like this as well.

Update on that model of laptop that I bought on 9/15/09.

I coincidentally had our IT Tech Support guy in my office installing a company desktop the day after I this laptop and while he was here the Acer LT was acting up. I didn't really have anything of value on it yet and he suggested that I do a clean install, which I did. He said if it happens again bring it back. Well it happened again, yesterday and I brought it back. I don't have time for computer problems.

So when I brought it back (to Walmart) I had the full intention of getting another model. I bought the Dell Equivalent to Acer. It cost me another $100. I got 4gb of ram (as opposed to the Acer 3gb), this also has the dual core pentium. The model I got is the Dell Inspiron il545-3489 (jet black). This computer is much fast than the Acer. Day and Night. It has a smooth fishes that will be easy to keep cleaner. The keyboard feels good and I do not seem to have as much trouble staying on the home row. The keyboard is quieter. This computer is more robust and has a nicer monitor (IMO). This keyboard doesn't have the number pad, for me that is better. Most of the laptops I have owned didn't have that and I think Acer's having one is what gave me so much trouble staying on the home row when I used it. I feel I can type twice as fast on this keyboard. Not as much advertising and gimmicky stuff on it as the Acer had. The price of this Dell at Walmart was $598 plus taxes. I took my Acer back and gave them another $109 to take this home. I have the 15.4 inch monitor, and for an extra $100 I could have gotten the 17.xx model for another $50. I opted for the smaller model with the knowledge that could go back today if I didn't like it and get the bigger one. I think I will keep this one so far. It seems to do what I want it to, it is fast and clear, 3lbs less weight, and less physical size. I think the idea for having a laptop is for ease of portability.

We just bought an Acer aspire 5534-1096 at Wallmart. $348 and no tax since we shopped in Delaware. The wife is taking it (December 2nd) to see if we can have internet at her mother's house out near Mombacho with connection thru one of the cell phone companies. If all goes well, the computer will stay at the house and she can talk and see her mother,by internet, anytime she wants which will be great.
If it is not possible to have internet thru the cell phone in that area, we will be selling the computer for the price we paid. Let us know by PM if anyone is interested in buying it and we will let you know how things work out.

Well my final review of the Acer was not great. I took it back and spent a bit more for a Dell. I love my new Dell. I have been using the hell out of it

Well time flies and I need a new laptop.

My Dell was a wonderful laptop and would be working fine but my girl friend poured a coke in it for calling her a fat pig. She is not a fat pig, but she called me some choice names. Let it suffice to say the situation got a bit out of hand and not only did I get a broom broken over my head I got my laptop destroyed.

I took it too a shop and they said I need a new motherboard and the cost would be $350. Tough call, but it crossed the line of being worth it to me. The thing cost $750 new in 2009.

So I took the girl friend to a relatives place and I am on the market for a new computer.

I need to get some kind of USB hard drive reader too, so I can get my photos and documents off of the Dell.

Freaking women.

i met a man last fall that works for the same company that i work for. i work for a very large company that covers about 12 states so i probably want get to talk with the guy again.

anyway the guy was from costa rica. we talked for a while and as soon as i told him that my wife was from nicaragua, we talked like we were best friends.

the guy was telling me that he got into computers in costa rica. he said he was a manager for hp. he said he could build computers and that was what he went to school for. he is a programer for our company and he installs systems for our company system wide. all our computers link together for everything billing, routing everything.

anyway i was asking him about computers and his opinion. he told me that in his opinion they were all he same and that you would be susprised at how many computers used the same parts.

also one thing he was talking about was try to go with a name that would honor their products. if you buy and acer make sure they will help you if it goes bad or help you repair it. too make sure once you buy it you can get technical support.

most of the ones i buy are hp computers. i dont think that they are better that another just the technical support. you can go onlike and chat with someone for free and they will try to help you.

last of all i have found out that if you buy a hp and you register it with them they will keep your information. the notbook that i am on now is 10 years old. then never last this long, but if i was to call hp today and give them my serial number of the notebook and if i was to ask them they will sell me an new computer at a discount because i have bought from them before.

all companies may do this i am not sure but this is the only reason i go with this compay.

one more thing i dont buy from places like wal-mart or best buy for example. i did buy one from a place like this one time and i will never do this again. they dont tell you this when you buy but some places only give you 15 days to return and that is it no questions asked. if it goes bad in 30 you are sol. they will send it to the company for you but that is it.

this old hp that i have i was using it in Nicaragua when i lived their. i started having problems. when i took it to worst buy then said $800 mother board.
i ended up fixing the computer with 4 screws. the fans broke loose from the mother board causing it to overheat. i took it apart and put 4 screws in it to hold the fans in place and it is still working.

$800 for a repair is what they said and i did that they wanted i just bought a new one. this is what they want you to do. i ended up giving the new hp to my niece in nicaragua and keeping the old one that i fixed.

i have had acer befor and i have an asus. i like all of them allot but since i have talked with hp so much i will buy one from them the next time i need one.

I really loved my Dell. It is flashy, has a nice black enamel finish that is easy to keep clean and it played will. Dual processor, 64 bit, 5gb ram and 500gb hd. Nice machine. I would love to take it apart and attempt to fix it. I may. I bought an old used Dell today from a place that recycles them. It is a big clunky thing that is old. I cannot get the DVD to play, it says it needs a decoder???? Anyway, thanks everyone. I guess I have to figure two things out.

So... 'Been Mussing on getting a new laptop since the kids are always using that Acer Netbook I bought 2 yrs back. It is a good little PC but the screen is too small for picture editing and the size a little small to regularly typing and it is rather crippled power wise...

Kinda poking around web sites looking for deals , missed 2 real good ones in the past month...

Well this AM (About 9) one poped up with a Phenome II (No not DOS part 2 ) gobs of memory and a really well rated screen

HP Pavilion dv7-4165dx NoteBook AMD Phenom II Triple-Core N850(2.2GHz) 17.3" 4GB Memory 640GB HDD 5400rpm BD Combo ATI Radeon HD 4250

Got all the right stuff and at a Kick a$$ price of $529..

So I pull the trigger.. It is on its way..

Now why the twilight connection ??

Well at 4:35 pm a email goes "bling" .. It was just the end of the fist quarter and as such the continuous improvement "Winning draw" email comes in (All those who make a continuous improvement in that quarter are entered) was held .

Now I am not one to submit continuous improvements on paper. Iz assume that wherez Iz work pays mez forz mys brainz.. And my brainz likes to be lazy and do continuous improvement every day without submission because it is well.. My job and it makes my job easier..

Anyway.. The Boss told me that last year I have to put in ONE written submission as part of my work score.. So reluctantly I did (Was estimated to make the Mother Corp 6 figures a year) .. And hot damn .. I was the winner.. For ... You guessed it $500 smackers..

Now taxes going out for the laptop and taxes coming in for the draw will be significant.. But the scenario is worth a...

The computer I have now is a Gateway M465-E with a 40gb hd, 512mb ram and Windows XP. It is amazing how well it runs with 512mb of ram using XP. Those new operating systems are such hogs. I bought 2gb of ram regardless ($45) off of ebay and that should be here any day now. I am looking at getting a 500gb hard drive and a bigger battery. I am not sure about what I am going to do for an operating system. I cannot bear to buy one, but once I put in the new hard drive I will need something. I took back the Dell I mentioned above, it just wasn't doing it. This Gateway is almost as good as the Dell Inspiron 1545 that I had. The girl had to swap a diamond ring for it because I never shut up about her intentionally destroying my Dell in a fit of rage. You guys know how girls are about diamonds, so it means a lot to me that she did it. I don't even care that I have to spend a few bucks to make this laptop better.
