Default Any americans residing in Chinandega or Leon?

Hello, my name is Eddie Dominguez an american citizen residing in Chinandega. I am married to a nicaraguan born wife and have two children born here in Nicaragua but have dual citizenship. I am currently a manager of the hotel cosiguina here in chinandega which is family owned. Our hotel website is www.hotelcosiguina.net. I have been residing here in Chinandega since April of 2005. I am curious to know if there are any other american citizen residing in Chinandega or Leon in which we can chat or make new friends. I just found out about this website as recently as two weeks ago.

Greetings Eddie, Also a new member of TRN and appreciate the link to your lovely hotel. Appears to be a peaceful oasis in the city.

My husband and I have yet to travel to Chinandega but will remember your location when we next venture north. We are eager to explore more of Nicaragua and although we have traveled extensively in Central America our time here (since 2000) has been devoted primarily to buying property, building our home, getting settled and just enjoying life in a country that has so graciously adopted and welcomed us. This year it is our hope to do go further afield.

We operate a small Bed & Breakfast facility in the countryside south of San Juan del Sur. Our website is http://www.latinlatitudes.com
Will share your link and information with travellers and guests that pass our way. Have a great day!

Come down to Leon and visit La Perla Hotel, www.laperlaleon.com . My business partner Jim or I (Mark) are usually around. Thirty minutes down the road and we can exchange hotel stories.

Hi to all. I do not live in Chinandega, but if you go the old road to Leon ( to Managua) you would pass our place right on the road at the 19th Km. If you are ever in our area please stop and vist.

Great photos of La Perla Mark! On the left is the balcony where I imagined I was dictator of Nicaragua addressing my adoring subjects (fueled by your minibar, of course).

All minibar fueled dreams are welcomed. For main bar aspirations we have the complete NFL package (English language). Every game is available with incredibly cold beer at your beck and call.

We are installing the chandaliers in the casino this week, so close to completion it hurts.

Mark, your place looks incredible!!! When my Dad asks where to stay around the country, you can be sure I'll be sending him to Leon. I really liked the fares on your van, also. That's a great rate to the airport and into Masaya!

    Melisssa,
It is a great building with an exciting history. When we did the restoration we found boxes of shells from Garand rifles. They were hidden in the floorboards either during the time the US Marines used the house as their headquarters in 1912 or during the revolution when the house was first commandered by the Guardia Nacional and later by the Frente. The building has been used through out the last 150 years, as part of the law school faculty, the Club Social de Leon, a barber shop, a chinese restaurant and as student housing. If you are a walking tour fan, the hotel is comfortable walking distance to everything in town, including the Museo de Ruben Dario, the Cathedal on the central park, and the Fundacion Ortiz art museum. Plus with the new highwayto Poneloya courtesy of the Millenium Challenge Acount the ride to the beach is no more than 15 minutes away on a US style road. We went to the beach yesterday and they have paved all of the beach road in Las Penitas and have commenced with the beach road at Poneloya. It is a major infrastructure improvement with visible improvement in the beach economy.

I kind of hate to see Poneloya and Las Penitas with a paved road! It used to be such a simple little town with their dirt road.

We had the opportunity to tour La Perla last year while visiting Leon and one can almost feel the history throughout the hotel. Your staff were gracious and welcoming. La Perla is beautiful and we will definitely stay there during a future visit. Accolades to you on the outcome of such an amazing restoration. It was our first, but not last, trip to Leon. We also believe the Fundacion Ortiz gallery is, among if not, the best art gallery that we have visited in all of Central America.

I forgot to mention that, which is a serious faux pas on my part since I spent so much time in that room. As a bar aficionado, I can say without a doubt it is the most beautiful bar in the country. The atmosphere is the perfect place for a glass of Centenario and a cigar.

I just am a totally compulsive Nicaraguan traveler and have the good fortune to work on a couple of great hotel/casino projects, in both Bluefields and Leon. Last year we rehabbed a small house on Brig Bay, Corn Island, with Cookshow and Merle's kind assistance so I got to learn a lot about the Corn Island culture and oddities.

The Brig Bay house is now for sale or rent to a decent long term tenant as Merle and Marlies have the nicest spot on the island and I always bring over tribute in the form of Pricemart goodies or marine hardware when I visit, so Merle is gracious enough to let me stay in their guest room. I honestly do not know what possesed me to build a spec house in the midst of a world wide real estate crash but it sure shows you that despite spending way too much time on the internet I was obviously not paying attention to the financial news.

Thats the idea!! The real credit goes to my business partner Jim Petersen who is a management genius and runs La Perla like a swiss watch. Please give us a visit and we can swap stories.
