The first Baseball Academy for Nicaragua was presented officially yesterday by a group of former Big Leaguer´s including Dave Stewart and Reggie Smith, like Bob Oettinger, along with a group of businessmen.

The idea is to develop talent for export, and in turn, build better citizens for the country.

The project will include 2 full baseball fields, 8 mounds, 4 batting cages, a gym, cafeteria, dormitories, classrooms and administrative offices. Cost will be around U$5 million dollars in the first phase.

This facility will be located in Villa El Carmen, south of Managua.

According to the investors, they chose Nicaragua because of the Passion for baseball in the country, and because they know there is talent here.

This is awesome! Hopefully now Nicaragua can build up it's talent and get back to playing in the Caribbean Series.

I hate to be so pesimistic, but I bet our elected officials will find a way to F^%$ this one up somehow. Maybe ALBANISA will try to buy the complex once it gets completed.

Has this happened, or is there a timeframe of when it may happen?

One of the things I had planned on doing when I get there is get involved somehow with youth baseball. Won't know how or what but youth baseball has always had a soft spot in my heart and it is a good way for me to get involved.

Any ideas on youth baseball or on this Academy would be very welcome on my part...

If you are in San Juan del Sur, there is a chance to get involved at least twice a year in youth baseball camps sponsored by the A. Jean Brugger Foundation. You may contact them via their web site if you are interested. http://www.fundacionajbrugger.org/

Thanks. "Breaking ground in 2011, in a location adjacent to the Gran Pacifica Beach and Golf Resort on the Nicaragua’s Pacific Coast, ..."

Doesn't that put it on disputed property, covered by the Sandinista's new Coastal Laws?

Three years from the announcement, is the delay in the courts?
