Default Not Computer - Furniture Tech

Well i'm fix'n a room in the basement and had to move Emilia's old broken rocking chair (Emilia is my Mother in law who passed away in 04 for new readers) numerous times durring the work and an idea came to mind...

The last break which sent it to the basement was a doosie ... IIRC the boys were jumping on it and it cracked off the back connection and poped out the front slip fit...

Actually repair of Nica rockers is a regular occurance up here.. It most have something to do with the wild fluctuations in humidity. Of the 5 we have (and 2 stools) they are regularly falling appart and carpenters glue is only a temporary fix. It just never held.

Well enter the super fixit.. PL Premimum -----

On the back and front separations....

And the ol' chair back to form...

While it looks a little messy we have to ol keepsake chair back in rotation. .... Next of to the 2 wobbly stools....

In the late '90s we brought back some rockers and a table, disassembled and wrapped in rice sacks and twine. They lasted a pretty good while. One rocker is in my parent's basement and is in good condition. The other started to fall apart. They put a clear coat on the wood, and you can't glue it without sanding off the coating where the glue will be. I was too lazy to do that. So the bad rocker sat in our family room for several years, used as a clothes hangar and ersatz storage unit (albeit a wobbly one). The wicker also failed in the seat back. After a few years like that, we retired it to the front porch where it's gathered dust, pollen, bird droppings, and other accretions that make you want to stay at least two feet away from it at all times. My wife won't let me put it out by the curb for some reason.

I don't remember what happened to the table.

And you can go one step further and I have seen it plenty........

Nail rubber soles from a bicycle tire to the rockers.....

But you will never have anything nice with young boys in the house.....

They will destroy an Iron anvil with a rubber hammer.....

Sorry but that is how it is....

To be called a "Has Been" I must surmise, is much Greater than to be called a "Nevah Been"... JW...

    Default Wood is not kilned

Nicaraguan furniture is not properly kiln-dried, which means it will fall apart quick in places where the homes are heated for winters and air-conditioned for summers. A properly-made abuelita will last for generations in Nicaragua, and fall apart in less than 10 years in places like Chicago and Toronto.

This one is the exception.. It came up in '91...

The table and chairs for the Kitchen that came up in 05 are starting to show it though...
